I decide to try Google Adword and I just signed up for Google Adword for the first time.

I very worried I going to do the setting wrong and spend more than I can afford to with my other advertising money I have already spent this month. I want to set it very low to begin and see how it goes.

I have the these settings:

Current maximum cost-per-click: USD $0.10
USD $1.00 daily budget limit

This will probably should stupid but does this mean I will only spend $1.00 a day then my ad stops showing for that day and I can only spend $31.00 a month in a 31 day month?

I have read all the help file but would really feel better if I could hear for others I am reading all this right.

New at this and very worried.
Thanks in advance
Kimberly

More or less, yes. When you set a limit of a certain dollar amount on your campaign, it doesn't exactly cut itself off the moment you reach that amount. As I understand it, the system looks at how much you're spending on a daily basis, takes into account that some days will be busier than others, and sets your daily limits based on a slightly longer period than just one day.

In other words, there may be days in which you spend $1.50, but it shouldn't work out to more than $31 a month, as you said. At least that's the way things worked the last time I ran an AdWords campaign.

That being said, I'm not sure if you're going to see very reliable numbers if you're working with such a small amount of money, unless you don't believe you'll get much more than 10 clicks in a given day. You might want to raise your limit to about $5 a day for a little while, just to see what kind of results you get. Then you can reword or disable some of your ads and stick with what's working based on those results, and then lower your budget back down to something you're more comfortable with.

Yes, your daily budget spending limit is what you think it is. Set it to 1 dollar and you won't spend more than 31 a month. Guess what, I once confused cost-per-click to be the daily limit, and my daily limit was set too high. Fortunately I noticed after about a week.

By the way, you can also ask Google AdWords support directly via email. They do answer.

Good luck with the campaign!

I get about 60 hits an hour right now and want to use google Adword for very set keyword phases to see if it brings in a set group of people I am looking for. Right when I sign up for google I was given an change to donate products to a national group for their national meeting in my state and want to give more money towards that so google will have to be low this month and maybe next month I can do more with it. This month is kind of a trial with it so I not going to spend a lot of money with it till I play with keywords more.

Thanks for the help
Kimberly

Welcome to the forums Kimberly! :hi:

You might consider targeting your keywords with bounded terms (using the brackets or quotes). Search this forum for lots of discussion on this topic.

:hi: Kimberly and welcome!
You may also want to look into using negative keywords in your campaigns to make your ads very targeted and bring in just the kind of traffic you want. Remember that traffic by itself is not good, you need the kind of traffic that will result in higher conversions.

What do you mean by "negative keywords" ?

In your list of keywords, add words that you don't want with a minus (-) sign in front of them, because if you're not using brackets around your keyword phrases the way Bernard suggested, then a query that just includes your keyword phrase will bring up your ad.

For example: if your keyword phrase is "blue gumballs" and you put it in brackets [blue gumballs] then only searches on that exact phrase and nothing else will bring up your ad.

If you just put the words blue gumballs, then your ad may come up for queries on blue, or gumballs.

If you put it in quotes, only queries including those two words, in that order will bring up the ad, but so will queries that use those two words along with other words, such as "free blue gumballs".

By using negative keywords, you can tell the system not to display your ad if the query includes any of the negative words. So if you put "-free" in your keyword list (without the quotation marks), then a search for free blue gumballs will not bring up your ad.

Simple, huh? :D

Kimberly, this thread explains AdWords keyword options pretty well:

Kimberly, when you log in to your AdWords account the next time, use Google's Keyword Suggestion Tool for help with your keywords. There is a link that explains Negative or Exact Matches. There is a link to an online tutorial from there.

I also recommend getting keywords here:

http://inventory.overture.com

remember to add the plural form of each keyword as Overture routes em all to the single one. As far as your ad words campaign, set all your words initally like this
[keyword] and then you will only get hits for that word rather than any phrase containing your keyword. Good luck. My experience has been that Google is a much better ROI right now than Overture.

Also, this is my first post, so nice to meet everyone. I am a guitarist (http://www.heavymusic.com) who is also an SEO (http://www.betterlistings.com). Thanks for this great forum and I look forward to meeting everyone. Have a great day.
