Hi Abertawe,

Good questions!

Gimpsy has quickly established itself as one of the leading directories. If you look at the list of ranked search sites here (http://www.freewebsubmission.com/), you can see Gimpsy in a very respectable place (13). Should you check the Alexa graph for Gimpsy you'll find that it did a big jump forward in the last few months.

Gimpsy is spidered regularly by ALL the majot search engines. Listing in Gimpsy significantly increases your chances of being found and spidered by the search engines, and Google is no exception.

A back link from Gimpsy is quite valuable and adds to the overall PageRank of your site in Google. If you choose the Promotion Option, your site will be promoted for 90 days within the categories to which it was accepted. SInce a very large proportion of the clicks at Gimpsy happen on one of the first five listed sites, being promoted (placed in a favourable position) may bring about significant number of clicks.

There is now quite a lot of information about Gimpsy on the net. A very good resource is this forum!! Just read through past posts and you will pick up a lot of information.

Is it worth it? It certainly is. You may wish to consider paying the 25 USD and get the decision about your site within 72 hours. Should it be accepted - expect to celebrate again, as your site will be promoted to a prime position.

Hope that helps!

Cheers

Hi Abertawe!

It is definitely a good idea to submit to Gimpsy! I'm not seeing traffic or backlinks from Gimpsy yet, but I didn't see any from GoGuides or JoeAnt for a while either and now both are sending some traffic and showing backlinks. You may not see immediate results but I think you will soon.

Any link from a quality directory is a good one!

We have been in Gimpsy for a while and can be easily found but although I have searched and clicked through, this does not shown in my access logs. I use web trends.

Does a search engine automatically show or do they have to be big enough,

I have checked in top referring sites, keywords phrases etc but no mention of Gimpsy?

Cheers

Hello Mark,

I am assuming that the site in question is the one in your signature :)

Your site is indeed registered with Gimpsy. The best way to find out how your site performs in Gimpsy is to 'claim' the site. Once you have been validated as the site owner, you have access to online and real time statistics about your site and the categories in which it is found. Moreover, you can also see past performance several months back!

You will know how many times the category was searched and how many times your site was clicked on - if any. You will also be able to tell if being in a higher position within the category would have made a difference. In some cases this matters a lot - and others not at all.

Hope that helps!

Hello Mark,

please explain how I claim my site, not sure how to do this

No problem!

To claim the site you need to...

Be a registered user in Gimpsy.
Login to Gimpsy (Click on the 'My Gimpsy' link - any page)
Click on the 'Claim my site' link from your personal menu

Further instructions and explanations will be given, although the process is really quite painless.

Hope that helps!

Thanks MC

I have done all that and it was easy to do so thanks for the help.

Still not sure why if I search for our site then click on the result and view the site the visits are not showing in my access logs?

I tried this couple of times yesterday and then had a look in both a WebTrends report and also opened up the Raw log file in Notepad and ran a search for Gimpsy and could not find any mention?

Other visits show up as below

I really like the way Gimpsy works and hope that is continues to be a success.

Good luck

Mark

Hi Mark,

I am not quite sure why the event doesn't show up in your logs. If you have claimed your site, you can check if Gimpsy counts those clicks. What do you find there?
