Changing Description

Anyone know how to get Looksmart to change your site description? They left out one of my most valuable keywords. Thanks in advance!

Yep. They left out "lesbian books" .. right? :)

If it is within 30 days of submission, simply reply back to the email they sent you when accepted. You have to be careful cause they will not simply add a keyword because you want them to. Give them good reasons that might benefit their visitors. Not that it might benefit you. Praise them a little in the email as well.

They left out the term "books." I don't seem to pull up on Looksmart related sites for "gay books" and only pull up for "gay bookstore." Perhaps I will eventually add a category. What do you think? And true-- they left out "lesbian." :(

Remember, it does not matter what you do in Looksmart as no one searches there. What does matter is MSN. They are different.

I thought the word lesbian was in the description? Try to get them to add the word books, right after the word lesbian.

You have no reason to be found on just the word "books". Way to general.

Again, politely email them to request the change. It has to benefit the Looksmart visitors only.

It is absolutely MSN that I care about. I will e-mail Looksmart and see what happens. I rank great on MSN for "gay bookstore." I think people may be more prone to search for the phrase "gay books" though.

If it is past 30 days, you have to use their change form on the site and pay for that.

If within, you have to reply back to the same email they used to notify you of your admission in.

I would fill out the "Suggest a Description Change' form...or as doug said, politely email them, praise them in the email...i usually start off thanking them for listing my site...and then starting in on the change i am requesting...

Unfortunately, yes it has. I just pulled a hard copy of the e-mail confirming my listing, and it has been a little over 30 days.:(

I don't know if they go by exactly 30 days...if it has been a few days more than 30 i would still try to email them from your site acceptance and see if they will edit it...and be extra polite..and see if they will change your description without making you pay...

it's worth a shot at saving some $$...

Hey, anything to save $$$. I DID e-mail them and let's hope I get a sympathetic person on the other end of my request. I'll keep you posted in case there are others that are in the same boat.

Just to let you know that Looksmart DID edit my description after the 30 days! I wrote them the nicest email and asked for the changes and told them what and why. I also sent them a thank-you note after they informed me that they had made the changes. I guess you can never be too nice to those guys. ;)

I know that msn is constantly playing with how it ranks sites from inktomi, but do they do the same with looksmart results?

does looksmart hold information abouth the site other than title and description, if so please explain.

by the way nice work barbara, I have just had the same experience. it seems like looksmart has a a sufficient number of quality editors, its good to see that they will be around for a while
