Hello Forum Folks

I have been studying search results for the keywords
"Nomex Coveralls"
I am confused as there are some listings in the first page with some questionable results.

[link snipped]

has a greyed out page rank and the information contained has very little info about Nomex Coveralls.
There is a Title description of "Section 04"
The incoming links are all from the same website?

Another web site has a PR of 5 but the incoming links are again from the same web site?
The Title description is taken from the first line of text at the top of the page as there is no Title description in the source code.

Your opinion would once again be appreciated.

A couple of things here:

a) Greyed out tool-bar. The Google toolbar has been playing up for some time. My home page sometimes has a greyed-out toolbar yet I still rank very highly. Strangely, if you click on a Google AdWord - the true toolbar reading shows up every time! So, I wouldn't read too much in to that. If they are ranking well - then (internally) Google have not given them any form of penalty.

b) The site concerned appears to be a military site - as such, I would imagine it is viewed as a site with some authority. Internal links will be counted to improve the page's Page Rank.

c) Google uses snippets from the body text and only uses the meta description if there is an exact match to the query string. Otherwise it pulls the words from the text on the page.

d) Frankly, this is not a term that anyone seems to have optimised for - and someone who follows the rules should be able to rank well for this term.

Certainly, I don't think anyone is deliberately using "tricks" to rank for this term, as far as I can see. It is just Google trying to rank pages as best it can for a term which is not really optimised for in any way.

I was thinking this myself as there is not many occurrences of the term "Nomex Coveralls" in the page itself and links on these sites.

Your opinion on this would also be appreciated.

Could well be text in links linking to the site that is often the answer for instances like that.

We really cannot give the actual reasons because there is no url to look at and examine.

Sorry Jed.
