Just a quick question - anyone else having a problem with the AV submission page?

I've been getting the following message all morning: No submission code is available at this moment. Please wait 5 minutes to reload the page for a new submission code.

lol. I have not submitted a page to AV in months. If a page gets in, it gets in by finding a link somewhere. Right now, I find it hard to justify the time to submit to them. Hopefully later things will be better.

I know it doesn't tend to drive much traffic, but AV tends to like my pages. Therefore spending 10 seconds copying and pasting for the chance to get 3 grands worth of business is generally regarded as a good use of my time. ;)

I am getting that same message when i try to access the AV basic submit page....although if you are submitting to Looksmart, you don't need to manually submit to AV...

Looks like it is back up again now.

Doug or Kal (or any other mods) you might want to change the add url on the forums page for AV to the new one: http://addurl.altavista.com/sites/addurl/newurl

The old one stopped working a week or so ago. The new page also includes an email address field that you need to fill in.

MsSearch, yup I am in Looksmart but I really don't trust scooter to go around and spider my site properly without a little helpful shove in the right direction. Besides, I do get more pages in when I manually submit, especially the image pages that I have on my sites.

Whatever you find works best for you (and how you want to manage your time I guess!). :)

Yes, thanks Manwah for that update.

Hey Ms Search, I have been submitting to Looksmart using their Paid Submission for years, and I have never noticed any difference in my AltaVista rankings and new sites were never indexed, despite their Looksmart "partner" claim.

The only time I noticed real improvement in AltaVista rankings was when I decided to join their paid indexing service (in desperation) from Info Spider. Sure, they indexed the sites as promised, sure the rankings improved, but traffic? Forget it.

I still submit my client's sites to AV but I explain to them that AV may never get around to indexing them. Not a major drama I say, because AV is simply not important anymore in terms of traffic delivery. :(
