I have position tech spidering my pages

I was wondering is there 2 spiders for inktomi?

1. inktomi (normal spider)

2. Slurp (position tech)

and if I have a page that is

www.gh.com/sitemap/canoeholidays?68716.asp

will it crawl only the sitemap page if thats the one i set it to index
pulling up on the titles, meta etc. from that page

or will it crawl the canoeholidays page pulling up the title, meta etc from that

I have this set on the sitemap page to crawl and at the moment
that is the only page that is appearing in the search engines.

also will the query string make a difference?

I am hoping that position tech has crawl the sitemap page and may not ahve indexed the content on it, but the inktomi spider may come to my site soon and index all of the content on the sitemap page eg. the canoe holidays page.

its strange coz if i type in the canoe holidays page into a search engine this page does not come up only the sitemap page.

ive been bengine on about this for a few days now so if anyone can help I would much appreciate it

cheeeers

When you pay for inclusion with Inktomi (it is inktomi spidering, not posititech which is only a reseller) only the paid page is guaranteed to be indexed, not the linked pages.
Though there are good chance than the normal inktomi spider index linked pages for free, it is a question of time.
I recommend to pay only for homepage, as most of time other pages are index via non paid spidering

thanx french dread

so i should just wait for the inkotmi spider to come and index it for free?

then these pages on the sitemap will be indexed

canoeholidays.asp
waterrafting.asp
footballboots.asp

along with the content meta and description for each page etc.

and also am i right in saying that it is not definetly 48 hrs indexing and could be longer

It will only get indexed for free if your site is linked to by other sites in the Inktomi (natural) index. You will not get other pages crawled because you have put a page in to PFI (paid inclusion).

Provided you have links from reputable sites and directories, your pages will be picked up - but it could take many months.

Make me top

I think u are misunderstanding what i have said.

My site is already being indexed by the search engines, I dont have a problem with that.

It is just that the site is built dynamically and I want to find out it i put a sitemap up will inktomi index the pages I have on the sitemap page and display them along with title and meta etc.

currently have built a site map but only the sitemap page is coming up and the pages within it have been indexed but they are not showing for those specific pages they are only showing the sitemap page.

I want them to index the content on the sitemap page basically

can any1 help

I think makemetop answered well, provided that your sitemap link to your dynamic pages with html links, Inktomu should index the linked pages

Ok, I'm a novice at this search engine stuff. I have inctomi along with paid alta vista inclusion through traffic blazer. My web site is band2day.com I need some info on what to do to get my pages indexed. My home page is the only one getting indexed. Some direction would be highly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums Will! :hi:

You only paid for your front page to be indexed in Inktomi and altavista. That is all the paid spider will do.

You need other content pages on the site in order for spiders to find them and index them. You don't have many pages anyway other than the actual product page that have the same 1st paragraph at the top and then a short description of the product. There is only a couple of those. I'm not sure what 'other' pages you would need indexed.

It's one thing to get a page indexed, it's quite another to get that same page a good position on your keyword phrases.

MakeMeTop's answer was very good. If you have a page in PFI, then that is all you get...paid for inclusion for that url. The inktomi spider for PFI only looks at PFI, so it might make multiple requests, but it would only be those of PFI pages.

On the other hand, it is possible to get additional pages spidered, assuming inbound links are present from other sites within the natural inktomi database. This does not necessarily mean that if the index page is a PFI page that the spiders would pick up/follow any internal links...as the PFI function is only that. But if those links were found naturally, or the sitemap had inbound natural links...then that may be a different story!~;)
