Hello,
can someone please tell me if there is anything going on with msn? they have already crawled one of my sites and it was positioned very well (#1) but after less than a month from showing on msn, it has totally vanished from their listing.
even a search for it's domain name returns nothing. can someone please explain? thanks!

Hi Jon, Is your listing a Looksmart listing or an Inktomi listing or an Overture listing? MSN does not have any listings right at the moment, so it was not MSN who dropped you.

I dunno what listing it was on. I didn't pay for it to get listed. After about 5 months, it just naturally appeared on MSN but disappeared after less than a month of appearing there.

What search term then did you use to use to find your site on MSN? If you don't know what kind of listing you had, we can't help you.

How would i know what kind of listing a site has on MSN?
The term it was showing for was "philippine export company" or "food and beverage export". It's still performing quite well on Google though.
I do know that the last recorded time that it appeared on MSN was on September 7, 2003 based on the last referral that the site got from MSN.

http://search.msn.com/results.asp?RS=CHECKED&FORM=MSNH&v=1&q=philippine+export+company
Those are Inktomi results.

Those are Inktomi results as well.
They are labelled as "web page". MSN gets their "web page" listings from Inktomi. You have to optimize your page in order to do well with Inktomi as it's a regular spidered database. We don't know why they dropped you. Have you been clean and spam-free?

It looks fine to me. Inktomi likes lots of content and that front page has very little. Like I said, it's a matter of optimization. Pages go up and down all the time on their keyword phrases. That is the name of the game. Most don't stay ranked on their phrases all the time. It's knowing what to do if and when you go down that is what is important. That is why these forums exist. The engines are not a static thing. Algos change and sites go up and down. Nothing you can do about it but keep working at it and keep on a learning. :)

Thanks for the quick replies. Last question... What are the chances that my site would get back on the list? It's perfectly ok for my listing to fluctuate but to get totally erased is another story (a sad story at that  ).
I feel no need to add more text to my home page since all that needs to be said can be said with just those few words that i have put.

Chances? Who knows?
You already said you feel no need to change anything, so good luck to you! You either optimize your site to get listed again or you don't. You said "no", so that says it all. :)

You may find this interesting, regarding MSN results.
I was just checking my logs for MSN
and I noticed that the tracking ( I use SurfStats)
ShowsTWO refs from MSN
http://search.msn.com (http://search.msn.co.uk) with about 280 hits
and also
http://uk.beta.search.msn.com (http://uk.beta.search.msn.com) with about 8 hits
I think this may be the new msn search engine at work in the UK.
Notice the word beta in there?
What will this mean to us, and where are the beta results coming from?
