I,ve been recently put incharge of instigating log tracking through nettracker and into the viability of client side tracking to track certain PPC and alike campaigns on sites that we do not host ourselves.

The main problem is that although we have an online account with nettracker and a locally host version so that clients can send us logs on CD to compile analysis on I have little experiance on how to turn the log information into useful reporting of stats and what is just junk stats...

Another issue is that on some of my profiles I have very useful marketing stats as to referrers and keywords and on others I've got nothing to go on...No referrers or keywords at all...I think I'll just have to re-import the logs or just Create the profiles again...

So what is the most useful stats that I can use for overall report making and how can I use this Knowledge to help my chums in the marketing team...

Thanks for taking the time to read this....!!:o:

No clue about nettracker.

But you simply show the reports you think are useful to your people. We all have different ideas so you do what you think is best.

I know what your saying doug but the ammount of data that these tools generate is huge...I have a feeling that I'll never be able to get back to my field if I start to supply data to the boys...

Any Ideas on a good (and cheap) client side tool so that I can do the PPC campaigns I've been looking at a firm called indextools but as stated I have only a rudimentary knowledge of stats work but a fair to middling skill with campaign data (geeks are good with numbers) so the easier the better..

http://www.indextools.com

That the client side tracking thingy...

There are many tools available. Do a search in here on all terms related to 'stats' or logs or whatever. We have discussed stat programs a lot in here.

Not all web hosts enable keyword tracking by default in the server logs.

I use ValueWeb as my host and they do not report keywords from search engine referrals by default. You need to call them (800#) and request it and then they will enable it. They explained to me that a large percentage of their clients do not monitor their web logs and it is a waste of space for them to generate all that info for sites that are not using it.

ValueWeb offers Urchin stats from the control panel as part of the hosting package, so I'm able to see just about everything I could want through my hosting account. You might check with the hosting companies for the sites you are monitoring. They may already have something sufficient for your needs.

I didn't know that, thanks for that Bernard.

I also believe that my hosting manager didn't know that either...
OOPS...Anyway I'll just have to pass on this info to the relivent parties and hopefully this will get fixed...

Cheers
