Hello All,
As a new member here, want to say thank you to all the moderators and others who give freely of their valuable insights to help others. Your service is a sign of cooperation and high ethics in the SEO business!
I have been lurking a lot, but now I just have a few basic questions about metatags. We have currently a webmaster who does a GREAT job, but he doesn't pretend to know much about SEO, and has put some metatags description and keywords content on our homepage only. No metatag desctiptons or keywords are placed for any other page, although he has placed title tags for each page.
Last time we checked, on the homepage only we had about 1558 characters and 242 words in our metatags keywords and 10 words in the metatags description. All this is on the one page only. Since we haven't gotten very good results with search engines ranking so far, we are afraid that the Search Engines have considered this spamming. So we are wondering:
1. Is the placement of 1558 characters (242 words) in the keywords metatag just on the home page alone considered spamming?
2. What is considered the maximum of characters or words for the metatag descriptions and metatag keywords?
3. Does Google give any importance to metatag descriptions?
4. Does Google give any importance to metatag keywords?
5. Should we have customized metatag description and keywords on each of our pages versus having metatags ONLY on our homepage?
6. Since we have used her book to "JILL" our content with keywords, do you think placing metatag descriptions and keywords on the rest of the pages will help our placement?
