When looking at my Webalizer Stats they normally have as #-1 the URL, then #-2 - something called "Direct Request."

For example,

http://www.domainname.com/ ranked 1st - 70% of referrers

(Direct Request) in brackets - ranked 2nd - 20% of referrers

Can someone please explain what this means? Especially what Direct Request means? Thanks.

Hello realnames,
A direct request is when someone goes directly to your site from a bookmark or types your url into their browser.
The do not get to your site by being "referred" from another web site.

Thanks but I still don't understand the difference between:

"http://www.domainname.com/ ranked 1st - 70% of referrers

(Direct Request) in brackets - ranked 2nd - 20% of referrers"

Based on what you said it would seem they are the same thing but they are broken down seperately in my stats so there must be a difference?

If by "domainname.com" you mean your own domain, direct request would differ from that in that it would be people clicking on bookmarks, links in non-web-based emails, or entering the URL manually.

"domainname.com" would be users who come to a page in your domain from another in the same domain, so I guess it's just tracking referrals on page views and not tracking unique visitor sessions.

...or in other words, 70% of clicks were from people already on the site. A pretty good result all up! You must have stuff people want to read.
