I have Adsense set up at www.cotswoldinternet.com/forum and it's been live for over 4 weeks.

For some reason google is posting ads about php, programming and tech. stuff. The site is a Cotswolds UK area guide/forum and all of the title, description and metas are about the cotswolds, cheltenham, stratford upon avon, oxford etc.

How can I influence adsense to post relevant ads and therefore benefit both parties please ?

I don't know, but I took a look at your forum's source code.

Perhaps the CSS/HTML is malformed? Have you tried validating it?

Perhaps the session IDs in all the links are causing Adsense to ignore the anchor text of all the links?

I believe the Google Adsense robots work independently of the regular Googlebot. They will visit pages after someone clicks through to the web page concerned. Then the process of working out what is meaningful context will presumably start.

I had a somewhat similar experience with the new ability of Google Adsense to show appropriate ads in other languages. This facility was launched on October 2. In my website, I have some pages in French, which always showed community service ads. I was still not seeing any change later that day so I emailed the Google team, who are now looking into it, so they told me. However the more visited French pages are now getting ads in French. So the process seems to be working.

You can always write to google support team. They will give you some clue how to get things on the right track.

A quick look at their faq shows the following information:

6. How do I allow Google to crawl my pages?

Google should be able to crawl your pages automatically unless you have a robots.txt crawler exclusion file set up on your web server. If you are restricting web crawlers from accessing your page, please add the following two lines to the top of your robots.txt file:

User-agent: Mediapartners-Google*
Disallow:

This change will allow us to crawl your site and deliver targeted ads to your users.

Make sure you have your keywords in your title and if you can in your URL. I have found that that helps.

I see fairly relevant ads - for hotels in Cotswold, Cheltenham etc. :)

Member services and core forum areas have php ads and that makes sense. There is no real Cotswold related or touristy content there.

etc have relevant ads.

How can I influence adsense to post relevant ads and therefore benefit both parties please ?The best way is to get plenty of relevant text on your pages - the more text, the closer the match. I'd assume that alt tags are useful too (can anyone confirm?)
Remember that Google won't always have relevant ads to place on your pages, so there will not always be a close match - I suspect this is more likely in the UK, where fewer advertisers will be on board.
