THANKS in advance!

I believe thumbs.db is created by Windows XP (or WIN2K) when you view a folder with the thumbnail view. It is not a part of FrontPage, but rather it used by the OS to indicate to display files in thumbnail view as opposed to list view.

Could be a file used by some image viewers such as irfanview

You can rename/move the file just to be sure...and then delete it once you are confident it will have no effect on your FrontPage web.

I have deleted it always. I don't think it ever effects anything.

For Windows Explorer: If you delete the file, then the next time you want to view the directory listing using the thumbnail view, the system has to generate thumbnails for each image and that can take a while if there are many images in the folder. So if you like to view your image folders as thumbnails instead of filenames then it's a good idea to leave the thumbs.db as is. The only effect deleting it has is that it needs to be generated again.
For FP: This file is created when you request FP to make a thumbnail of your image for you. The temporary images are stored in this db until you save them to a folder when you save the page.
