View Full Version : Two <H1> questions

1) Does anyone know if making an <H1> (or <H2>, <H3>, etc. for that matter) a hyperlink will in turn make it "super relevant" for a particular keyword? Or will search engines actually view this as an overt attempt at increasing keyword relevancy?

2) Will I be dinged for using two <H1>'s on a particular page? Especially if both of these use the same keyword terms?

Thanks,
Mav

Welcome to the forums, Mavfan!

I don't think anyone could say for sure how much it could actually help you, but I do know that it definitely wouldn't hurt you.

Welcome, mavfan :hi:

Jill's comments may be true today (I'm not sure). Here's something to think about for the future...

A1) You could try it, but ask yourself this: if you weren't doing SEO, how often do you think you would put a hyperlink in a heading tag??? Pretty much never, IMO. I think there's a good chance a spam filter would catch that one day.

A2) No, you won't be dinged for that. Same principle as A1 ... multiple H1 tags are expected on a page, so so what if two contain the same (key)words? You might be dinged one day if they are not genuine headings. Disguising headings as plain text is "frowned upon".
