Purchasing another Domain

Once a domain is purchased is it best to put a perm 302 redirect up if no promotion of that domain will happen?

AFAIK, 302 is only a temporary redirect, so spiders would maintain both the old redirected URL and the new URL to which the redirect points.

A 301 redirect is permanent and the old redirected URL would be dropped from databases and the new URL would be the only one to be maintained in the databases.

Thank you! How long can you have a 302 redirect? I'm thinking from an SEO standpoint on which would be best to do.

I don't want to jeapordize the site that its being redirected to.

I don't think there is a time limit. I'm guessing that it just sits there for all time, indicating that the redirect is not permanent and might disappear at any time.
