View Full Version : Do I qualify for Yahoo UK?

I'm working in the Southern Hemisphere and new to the SEO field.

Got a client who wants a Yahoo submission for their site that promotes vacation rental properties in their country. Their .com site content is not *specifically* targeted at the UK, but a major portion of their clientele come from the UK. Prices are not listed on the site, so currency is not an issue.

The client would like to save the money by having the one time fee of Yahoo UK as opposed to the annual fee of Yahoo.com, but they want to know if the odds are higher that Yahoo UK will reject their submission, in light of being a .com and the above situation.

Any advice?

Yahoo UK accepts sites that are aimed primarily at a UK market or where the company is based in the UK or the submitter is based in the UK.

Although you may get in, you could just wind up blowing your money. I wouldn't take the risk, personally.

Welcome to the forums BDI! :hi:

I agree with Barry.

Why not submit to yahoo US as your listing will also trickle to UK anyway? It really makes no difference except that you have to pay every year to stay in.

ihelpyou and MakeMeTop - thank you for taking the time to respond.

Here's how the story ends:

I sent my question off to Yahoo! themselves, and they responded (thank you, Yahoo!) :

Yahoo! told me that the site was NOT more likely to be rejected by Yahoo UK compared to Yahoo.com. This was in response to my letter below explaining the specific conditions for my submission:

"I want to submit a commericaial .com site to Yahoo UK, but am unsure if I am supposed to submit it to Yahoo UK or Yahoo.com. The site has an English version and meets all the listed UK submission guidelines. However, the site has to do with a vacation rentals company in COUNTRY X. The business is not located in the UK. The site doesn't specifically mention the UK, but more clients for the business come from the UK than from the US. Which Yahoo directory is more appropriate?
Don't want to pay for an express submission to the wrong directory."

And the story has a happy ending. The submission WAS accepted by Yahoo UK.

So there is my experience. I hope it can be useful to others facing the same choice.
