Opt-in lists?

Anyone have any experience using opt-in lists? I'm thinking of trying this out in the future and marketing myself to people traveling to Europe. Could be very good for my business but with the level of spam today it just seems that people would immediately delete the email even if it's relevant to their trip (I sell prepaid international cell phones).

I'd like to hear experiences from anyone that has used this lists. More importantly have you continued to use them and would you use them in the future?

I haven't used any outside list, but we are planning to use one very soon. The response with our own list is great. E-mail marketing still works! :)

You might check infousa.com. They are partners for the Yahoo! Small Business, and seem to have a variety of permission based lists.
