Some of you may know about this scam but for those who don't here is the rub:

There is a company calling themselves "Domain Support Group", out of Toronto (though they use a NY address on their faxes), that is sending out spam faxes designed to scare you into using their "service" to register your other new TLD domain name. They make their scam money by adding on a "service fee" on top of what you would normally pay to an accredited registrar.

******************
Here's how it works:

You have a .com domain name (or maybe .net or .org)

You receive a very "official" and "legal" looking fax with a heading of "URGENT NOTICE OF DOMAIN EXTENSION" and/or "FINAL NOTICE", (I received the "URGENT" on one day and then ""FINAL" on the very next day), addressed to "Business Owner or Manager".

They go on to state "In Accordance With The United States Legal Code: TITLE 15, Sec 1125. False descriptions, and dilution of Trademarks and the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP)", and then spuot off a bunch of legal sounding mumbo-jumbo.
*******************

In essence, they're trying to scam you into registering one of the new TLD domain name extensions such as .info using their service.

Do NOT fall for this as it is TOTALLY a SCAM.

There was, about a year or so ago, a similar scam company called "Electronic Domain Name Monitoring Service", who attempted the exact type of scam, and whom were subsequently driven out of business, but not before they made some money, I'm sure.

So, keep your eyes peeled for them and if you have any suggestions how and to whom to report them, please post them here.
