View Full Version : Wondering about a second category

Hello,

I submitted my site to Yahoo in November and have a few days left in my appeal period. What I'm wondering is this: I'm listed in one category but supposedly you can be listed in two categories with Business Express. I suggested a second category when I submitted but that was not done. I've noticed a few sites that are in both the category I'm in and the other category I suggested. I've since discovered an additional category where I might fit, as well.

Is is worthwhile appealing to ask for a listing in second category, or should I leave well enough alone? I got exactly the title and description I asked for, with the small exception that the editor hyphenated one word in the description. (I'm getting traffic from that version of the word so it's turning out better than I thought.)

Any thoughts, suggestions, advice, cautions? If I need to give more details please say so. I'd like a few thoughts from you folks before I decide what to do.

Regards from Canada,

Elisabeth Archambault

My suggestion is to leave well enough alone. It is very unusual to get 2 cat listings with your Biz Express listing and the appeal process is generally reserved for incorrect categories, URL's or rejections. You can always suggest an additional category later on (they will have record of your Biz Express purchase).

When you suggest an additional category (via their Change Request Form), make sure you justify the extra listing very carefully - make a point that it will benefit Yahoo users and why. Give examples of your competitors having 2 listings and be patient!

Welcome to the forums Elizabeth! :hi:

Good to see you hear. Yes, I agree with Kal. Another risk is that another editor might review your request and change you description also. You do not want that. Waiting awhile to suggest another category would be your best bet.

Hi Elisabeth,

Glad you finally came along. Good to see you here.

I have to concur with Doug and Kal on this one - I have got sites into three categories with one submission but these are usually sites that sell products or services that can also be placed into a regional cat. and into the main business/services category as well as the one targeted, but in your case, this doesn't really apply.

Leave it a while. Anyway, aren't you being a little greedy ;) as didn't you end up with a number 1 for 'shopping' ?

Yes, I'm greedy! I want it allllllll ....! I did have #1 briefly after the "new" icon came off, for shopping and several other terms, but it didn't last long. I think they were tinkering with algos.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. I shall leave well enough alone for now. I'll be watching with interest to see what effect Yahoo has on my Google rankings.

OOPS. Sorry Libby. :green:

I used to know someone who went by that name. :) Just had to do it.
