I heard that Kanoodle got a round of financing from a VC and hired three executives that used to be with About.com and Sprinks? any body have any news on this? is it true and will this help them?

I'll leave the "will this help them" part to those who know more (and/or have an opinion) about the subject.

I am curious why I should ever recommend Kanoodle when you have google and overture for ppc?

I don't know why you would, but why I do is:

I submit all of our sites to Google,Alta Vista,AOL which is Google Yahoo...MSN , Looksmart etc. to get alot of links back!! and you never know how someone is going to search!!!

Most people use whatever search engine they have on the computer they bought!! I deal with alot of different clients who only think MSN is the best out there some Google and some only think Yahoo is the best!

I decided to use Kanoodle for one of my largest clients on his top keyword phrases and he has done very well. It does not bring in the money that Google or Overture does, but the conversion rate is 3x better.

To be clear, submitting to crawler based search engines like Google, Alta Vista, etc. does not guarantee a listing.

Listings on those search engines are not crawled by other search engines and do not count as back links like human edited directories do.

The only reason to use a PPC is if there is a good ROI. I have never used Kanoodle, so I don't know what it brings to the table. Do they use affiliates to distribute/syndicate their listings? How do they manage fraud?

only1f I wanted to use Kanoodle too.. I am accepted but I am doubting of using them suddenly..
Why ? I just made an account as an advertiser.. I submitted 53 listings.. none accepting because they are very severe on your keywords.. a bit too severe.. they force you to add a keyword like "links" or "find" with the keywords.. but then you won't get a lot of visitors for it because A LOT LESS people are typing those words if you add "links" or "find".. pity... but they have higher bids because it starts from $0.05 ;-)

What do you mean by severe on keywords?

Like I said they force you to add a word, because kanoodle finds that it is needed.. but this causes that you won't have a lot visitors, only a very small..

I have never had any suggested changes to my submitted keywords. Is it possible that the market you are promoting is unique when it comes to this?

Also, I would agree with the general sentiment here, Kanoodle will not bring the quantity of traffic provided by the “Big 2”, but the conversions are much better.
