Perhaps it is just my experience, but...
I searched overture just now to see what was #1 for "search engine optimization".
http://www.dimmittowens.com/ came up.
Can someone explain to me how this is relevant. Because to me, it seems like an obvious case of the PPC model falling flat on it's face.
Just my $0.02 though!

You've ht the nail on the head SEO speedster;
You don't have to have and relevancy to rank high with Overture, Just bid high.

I don't even see that firm in the rankings there any more. But sheesh...some companies are paying nearly $6 a click for "search engine optimization"! You've got to be kidding me? Hard to imagine it could be worth it. I see that MakeMeTop pays...I wonder how he finds it. It's interesting that most of the companies that are paying aren't companies I've ever even heard of. There's only about 3 in the top 20 that I even know of. Interesting how most of those sites can't seem to make it to the top 10 in the regular results, but want others to pay them to do it for their sites!

Branding, branding, branding! Very few (1 a week maybe) people click on that listing as it doesn't show up on the major partners (too low down) - but it is high enough to get me shown on some of the meta engines - including Ixquick and I win on that. (I think I'm in the top 5 for 'search engine optimization'). So, it's nicely hidden away so not too many people hammer the link - but shows my name up a few more times when people are really hunting for SEOs. I find it a very cost effective way to strategically advertise.
But as it has now been publicised here - I'm dropping the bid waaaay down over the holidays. Just in case anyone thought they would spend some of my hard earned money by clicking on it (not that you would) ;)
As I seem to show up on Lycos US and ATW pretty constantly in the top 10 for the 'z' spelling and also on AV every 2-3 weeks or so - it just tickles my pride to have the occassional 5 stars come up on Ixquick for the American spelling. Impresses the hell out of potential clients over here :)

Nope, wouldn't click on yours! But did click on the top 10 or so...hey...gotta inspect the competition you know!
Just realized that I just spent a good $40 or so bucks of other company's money...awww...what a shame, I probably should oughta have done that...
