Hi,

with a rewrite of the site submission engine, I'm now happy to say
I'm again opening the door to the free site submisison facility at
http://WebSearch.COM.AU

I hope that the new version will cope better with spam'ed submissions
and general abuse.

I welcome one and all to submit all and any sites you would like to
have included.

Thanks,

Dez

Please note we will contact you from time to time via the address supplied with news or updates regarding WebSearch. If you do not agree with this, do not submit your site !!
I am confused.

You have a check box to 'not' get email from your site. Then, you make the statement above. Which is it?

If I submit sites to you, am I going to receive email if I want it or not?

Also, can I submit ANY site to you regardless of the extension?

Also, do you require ALL those boxes filled out? If so,, why? Can they be left blank except for the email address?

Hi again,

great feedback - thanks.

You're right - it is confusing, I'm an idiot - I've updated this to simplify the page, be basic message was supposed to be that without a VALID email address where the system can send you a confirmation email, i.e. one that will NOT bounce, the submission will be deleted automatically.

Appreciate the pick up - this is what comes of writing at the late wee hours and not having time to review every line you write some times.

Greatly appreciated - always happy to admit I'm just human, and most days probably a complete idiot due to lack of sleep, family life and the juggle of work and a dreamy two year old daughter * grin *.

Fantastic to have feedback like this as it saves my ass big time!

Cheers,

Dez

Ok,

thanks to some great feedback, which I'm always glad to wear on the chin if I've screwed up, which in this case I clearly had ( nobody can kick your arse harder than yourself it turns out ), I've now made some fundamental updates to my site submission page.

To get there, simple go to:

http://WebSearch.COM.AU/

then click on "Add your site" at the page footer.

I'm really keen to get any feedback on it's current status, shoudl I change anything, what if anything is wrong with it, how can I make it better etc etc.

Please bear in mind that I'm trying to build as fraud and spam resistant a $free site submission facility as possible.

Currently I'm getting around 35,000+ dialy unique ( excluding the hundreds of thousands of spam'ed hits from the same sites etc ) submissions, out of which, yesterday, 14,704 were qualified by the filter and engine to be included within 24 hours in the *.AU ( WebSearch.COM.AU ) or *.NZ ( WebSearch.CO.NZ ) engines.

the NZ engine is still running V2 of WebSearch so it's full of bugs, spam links and all sorts of crap that currently drives me crazy, but I'm dedicating 2 hours a day to the soon to be completed rebuild of the WebSearch.CO.NZ back end and re-spider of around 12.5+ million *.NZ sites - bandwidth willing.

BTW: if I offended anyone in my <RANT></RANT> about "is this forum dead" the other day, I'm sorry but it wasn't my intention - I was having a bad hair day - I'm sure I stepped on some toes, and for that I'm humbly sorry if I did, I'm not perfect, I'm a regular 36 year old guy who has had hair [ whats left of it ] days.

You'll probably note on the new submit page that I've raised the Global engine, again, yes, it's real, and I'm happy to give you access to the current test build with around 12.7 million URL's loaded from the index I'm currently building with around 80% of my traffic dedicated to hauling ass to get to aroudn 100 million plus URL's in the engine to put it online and ask people to beat it to death and try to break it etc.

http://WebSearch.COM.AU:8080

That will get you to the new test build, please view it with the understanding that it's very very early days, it's currently a tiny test database / INDEX, it's running on a single test server, which is a measyly single CPU with a couple of terrabytes of disk, and it's running red hot indexing accross my entire cluster so feedback please, indeed, but please please do bear in mind that it's a complete rewrite of my V3 system with very very new, big engine "underpants" on and it's got a lot of work to be done yet * grin *

Cheers,

Dez

ps: having a better hair day today..
