(I have also asked the same question for Inktomi, but am not sure if Infospider (altavista) has the same policies)

I have submited my company web page last week as:

www.itecsonline.com
(which defaults to www.itecsonline.com/default.htm)

and am getting rankings within the top 5 (depending on the keyword utilized).

However, I have multiple HTM files in that domain that have their own unique set of META TAGS etc.

With Inktomi, can I submit multiple unique HTM files that are located in the same domain, and will they be treated as seperate database entries?

Example:
www.itecsonline.com/webdevelopment.htm
www.itecsonline.com/onlinemarketing.htm
www.itecsonline.com/onsitetechnicalsupport.htm
www.itecsonline.com/ITconsulting.htm

Thank you very much for your help..

Looking at your page, you should know this stuff. :p

I am just a newbie but from what i have picked up from these forums, Unless you have very unique content that is deemed important on the web ie:through outside links to specific subdomain pages, inktomi will only index your default page.

However, by using positiontech.com you can submit these pages to inktomi, they will index them within 48 hours and they are guaranteed for 1 year this will cost you $25 each. (costing you $100) After 1 year is over, inktomi may only keep your default page.

as far as altavista goes, cant help you there their engine eludes me

Hi Brian and welcome to the forums :hi:

Good advice from Mac above - best way to get results fast on Inktomi is to pay one of their partners to spider those extra pages quickly. Search the Inktomi forum for further info. As for AltaVista, submit away via their free submit URL, but don't hold your breath. They rarely update their index and new submissions can take many many months to appear.

By the way, when I clicked on Brian's home page link I got the Windows "Blue Screen of Death". Anyone else have this problem?

I think you're right! This has happened previously on another Flash site. I really hate Flash!! But it looks like I'll have to download it again... grrrrrr

[Yep, that fixed it. Thanks]

Hi Itecs

Inkotomi has several methods of finding and indexing your site. You can submit via the free add URL at HotBot, You can use the paid submission service, or you can wait for INK or one of its partners to find your site and add it to the web.

There are differences in what they crawl and how they index it:
Inktomi says:

"Inktomi continues to offer the free Add URL service through our search portal customers (HotBot and Canada.com). Additionally, Inktomi's crawlers continue to spider the Web and include the most relevant pages in the searchable Web database. " and " AddURL is a free URL submission service that is a suggestion that Inktomi consider the URL for potential inclusion in the index. It is less likely that the URL will be included via AddURL than via the regular Inktomi crawling process. The AddURL service has long been abused by "spammers" (People who attempt to trick the search engine by including multiple instances of the same keyword or misleading keywords) and adult oriented sites. Over 95% of the AddURL service submissions are attempts to trick the search engine and have a negative impact on relevance and user experience" .

The fastest way to be included in the Inktomi index is through their paid incusion service, which give you the added advantage opf having the pages you paid for spidered every 48 hours, BUT they will not crawl or index any pages you have not paid for.

If you are added other methods Inktomi will normally deep crawl your site, including any pages it finds up to two levels deep.
