Received from AV:
New! You may now submit your Express Inclusion URLs to any of AltaVista's
country indices! You may submit your URLs to any of these indices that
are relevant to your site from your Account Management Center.
Please visit http://www.infospider.com/av/app/add_indices for more
information.
In addition, we have launched the Express Inclusion program on AltaVista's
UK and Australian sites! You can access the programs from AltaVista UK
and AltaVista Australia.
Effective December 7, 2001, the pricing for the Express Inclusion program
has changed. The new pricing will not affect your renewal rate.

Yeah I got this email too. Not real sure of the advantages yet. . It certainly indicates that AltaVista will finally be updating their various country indexes for the first time in many, many months - definitely a good thing.
What isn’t clear is whether other country domains already submitted to the main AltaVista index via Express Inclusion will remain in that index. Or whether existing listings in country indexes will disappear in favour of those who now pay to be indexed. It’s also not clear whether your country domain submissions end up in the main AV index. If they did and if AltaVista keeps their indexes fresh, it would be a bargain IMO.
Although maybe its all too late given the loss of eyeballs over at AV?

This could be a sign that they've finally merged their indexes. In which case, submission to one should be submission to all. I suppose if you submit to the UK index, it makes it more obvious that you expect your site to be relevant to UK users...

They've been merged for about a month. However, few people have noticed!

Express Inclusion submits your URL to the global AltaVista database, and if your domain extension is country specific, it will also be included in the regional AltaVista that matches your domain.
Advantages? For a while there, it didn't seem possible to submit a .com url to a regional AV... Now you can submit to any AltaVista Index you want...and be assured indexing.

Welcome to the forums, Swirl :hi:
Interested to test your opinions on these four options, all with a UK-based organisation
1) Domain is .co.uk, target audience is global
2) Domain is .co.uk, target audience is UK
3) Domain is .com, target audience is global
2) Domain is .com, target audience is UK
Which EI option(s) should be used in each case?
[Later edit: After looking at https://www.infospider.com/av/app/faq  ]
If your URL has a .au or .uk domain, your URLs will automatically be added to the Australian or UK indices. This would also happen if you submitted URLs with .au or .uk domains to the US Express Inclusion program. However, if you submit a URL with another country domain or with any non-country domain to the Australian or UK programs, your URL will not automatically be added to those indices. You will need to pay to be added to the .au and .uk indices. Any listing enhancements that you have purchased for a URL will only show up in those indices to which you have automatically been added or you have paid to be included in.
Clear then???
