Hello! Lots of great help and info. here. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas why my site still has not been included in Yahoo's directory ??? I have submittd it, periodically, over the past year, with no results. Could it be the category (home & Garden, gardening) is too saturated ? I honestly don't know...Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the forums kalew! :hi:
Yes. I think you should submit to a lower category. Not saying your site is not good as I think it is very good! Just that Yahoo is hurting for money now and they want sites to "pay" to get listed. I would look at the categories at the top on this page and submit to one of them.

Also, only submit once every 6-7 weeks or so.

You can easily get into Yahoo in 7 days. You simply have to pay them $299 (and apparently now each year). Any site that is the least bit commercial can only get listed in Yahoo by paying. They will not add business sites for free.

Does anyone know if Yahoo has stopped accepting free commercial listings in the regional categories. I seem to remember getting sites listed for free that way several months back. The whole $299 a year deal seems great for some people...but there should still be a way in for free...even if its just regionally. But I guess Yahoo has to make money.

I haven't checked in the last week or so but they have been making many more (if not all) regional categories in Yahoo US BizEx submission only...
not quite sure about Yahoo UK, CA, and others, though...
Although with their new yearly fees, it would make sense that they do away with the free listings first before implementing an annual fee....but anything can happen in the search engine world.

I think you may be right MSSearch. A quick check of business related categories in US regional New York now is only permitting yahoo express submissions. The have removed the free submission option for any business related category in regional. I don't have time to check out the other states but I would assume it to be the same. I don't know about Yahoo UK and that...but I would be curious to find out...

Hi,
A brief check suggests country-specific Yahoo!s remain free: CA, UK, AU were the ones I checked.
I would imagine the recurring annual fee would provide more income than shifting more regional categories to a paid model, and Yahoo! may feel that certain regional categories (ie. most) would have very few paid inclusions, thus greatly reducing the effectiveness of those categories. However, a much larger proportion of US categories contain businessess willing to sacrifice another $299 per year to remain in the directory; so here the fee will not have such great an impact.
Yahoo! realises a directory listing is vital to many companies' online successes, and those will have a bit of a whinge then grudgingly pay. It also realises many regional categories comprise websites which mostly couldn't justify the annual fee; so Yahoo! is forced to not implement the fee in those areas.
It will certainly be interesting to see how many regional categories become paid-only, and if Yahoo! ever reverse some of their decisions due to lack of support.
Warmest regards,
Kaj

They'd make millions if they'd just charge for letting people update their listings instead of having to go through their "change" form.
