Webpositiongold, or Webposition whatever it's name is. I have read that many "professional" SEOers use this software when Optimizing clients sites. I downloaded it once, and didn't feel like reading everything it had to tell me at the time. Now though I'm think of getting it again. Does it really work as well as everyone says it does?

The best way to optimize is by hand only.
I bought WPG awhile ago but have never used it for anything. I know some do, not me. I use Topdog to give reports on ranks to clients. That is the only thing I use to automate.
All else should be done by hand.

WPG can figure keyword percentages though right? Isn't this a important factor for SEO?

It is not as important as many say it is.
You can see your density for free here:

And a bunch of other places.

So how many characters length is safe to have when making a keyword list? I have seen many sites that have 15-20 words easy, and rank well with SE's. While I read other places you should only have about 6-7.

WPG is a great tool for reporting positions in the engines. But I find their Page Critic function totally confusing, and not to really make sense. When I run my pages through it that rank in the top ten on all the engines, it would tell me that the keyword percentages were not right, and that kinda thing. I haven't tried the page critic in many years now, but either way, I could never use something like that because it would give me a headache.
Numbers are not as important as you would think in the SEO game. Use your phrases where they make sense. And as for the meta keyword tag...like I always say, don't waste a minute of sleep over that tag. It won't help your rankings much at all, especially if you have little to no keyword rich content.

Hi IQ
Jill is 100% on here (as usual). By all means put in a keywords tag, just in case, but most of the search engines just don't read it anymore. Put in your best keywords relevant to that page - if you have more two or three different keywords or phrases on a page you should be thinking about reworking the page to get your themes better organised.

Hi WebWhiz;
I have to agree with you on the page critic thing. Recently I did a study and ran WPGs page through the WPG page Critic - it rated very poorly. I was interested in that so I called First Position who said they get their top rankings on MSN through link popularity.
