Just updating my site a bit and was interested to note how the market share of various search engines has been changing.

According to Wordtracker:

Yahoo! gets 37.8% of web searches
Google gets 23.5%..................subtotal 61.3%
MSN gets 12.9%......................subtotal 74.2%
AOL gets 4.2%
AV gets 3.2%
GoTo gets 2.9%
Excite gets 2.8%
Lycos gets 2.3%
Nescape gets 1.2%
Looksmart gets 0.6%................subtotal 90.8% -- the top ten
DMOZ gets 0.3%
Fast gets 0.2%
HotBot gets 0.1%

This represents a gain by Google primarily at the expense of AV and MSN.

When you consider that just a good ranking on Google will also do well for you on Yahoo, your optimization efforts for Google are addressing 60% of the market.

When you put it like that, ODP is a very critical listing (even though DMOZ gets so few searches).

Isn't M 'n' S a shop? :)

Got me Chris!!!!

Yes ODP becomes very critical, but Looksmart is still capable of getting you a Google boost - Taken together...............
