Aol?

AOL has been including Looksmart directory sites in search results lately. Anyone else notice this?

I think I figured out my own question.

AOl is powered by Inktomi. The results I have seen are powered by Inktomi. Every Looksmart directory listing is now spidered by Inktomi and added to the Ink index. This is what I am seeing.

I should explain further.

There is no reason to "pay" for inclusion to Inktomi if the very same Url is submitted into the Looksmart directory as that url is automatically included in Inktomi.

hmmmm...i am not seeing this. Are you sure that those 'looksmart' listings in AOL are not Inktomi listings with the Looksmart title and description?

Yes, MS. That is what I said. :)

LS listings automatically get included in the Inktomi database as is. That is why I say there is no need to pay to get a url into Inktomi if it is in LS. The only reason you may wish to would be the benefit of "tweaking" regularly. But your title and description will remain anyway, no matter how much you tweak.

Doug's right! If you do a search at Position Technologies Pure Search of Inktomi's Database (http://169.207.238.189/search/) you will also see looksmart sites and descriptions. That pretty much confirms what Doug is saying.

Doug, I disagree that there is no reason to pay inktomi because of Looksmart to a degree.

For the main urls, you are correct, there is no reason to pay inktomi. However all the deeplinks should still be paid to inktomi if you want to make sure they are spidered regularly, and to stay in the index. If a deeplink is in LS, you are correct, no need. If it is not in LS, then the best way is to continue to pay Ink.
