On the way to work this morning I saw an advertisement for Yahoo search on one of the big billboards. I guess they're really making a push to make it aware and useful to australians

I wonder how well those billboards you see on the side of major highways work? I've thought about looking into them but I would guess are "very" expensive. It would be hard to even track a thing like that. I guess the big value to them has to do with "branding" and getting as many eyeballs on your name as possible.

Yeh I'm sure they're very expensive. I'd like to know how well they work too. I'm sure there would be some statistics on the net about this somewhere. Anyone know where we can see this?

With the big push by Sensis I imagine they have to ensure they stay top of mind.

Yeh I've seen large sensis advertising on buses too. It actually felt quite strange to see these SE's advertising 'offline'

It may be new to Australia but Yahoo! has always been a big offline advertiser in N.A. Sanity is likely right about competition influencing this. Not to denegrate the Australian market but it is relatively small compared to N.A. and others and they likely felt they had enough share to forego the offline campaigns. IMO, this would indicate the competitor mentioned is taking share from Yahoo! with the ad campaign.

Nice to see you here Sophie!

Nice to be here Terry!

Your post is spot on. Sensis, the newcomer, is part of the Yellowpages/Whitepages group and therefore has a huge ready made audience. Hence Yahoo's push.

If only Sensis actually had more than 1% market share...

Pity really, as it is a really good uidea executed very badly!!!

In Sydney, Australia, Yahoo has for years, still does, had a bright "Yahoo(tm) Purple(r)" buss that is sponsored by Yahoo with the New South Wales ( NSW ) State Transit Authority ( STA ), the folk who run the state buss services.

It's a wild thing to see a purple buss ( they are usually a nice tidy white with blue and red trimming ) with big yellow ( filthy ) Yahoo! streaked down the sides and rear!

But then I guess if I had a few dollars spare I'd love to have a http://WebSearch.COM.AU sponsored buss running around Sydney too - I'm only a few dollars short too..

The "first" few dollars * grin *

ps: by the way, <gratuitous plug> have you noticed this?
