Hi all,
I would like to introduce myself as the creator of www.ukwizz.com

UKWizz is a Uk based search engine that attempts to index as high a percentage of UK specific web content as possible. Curently the search engine is very new, so still has a long way to go. I would however very much appreciate your oppinions.

Hi UKWizz,

Would you mind telling us the expected completion date for the testing period?

Welcome to the forums ukwizz! :hi:

Very clean site! Are your plans to keep it this clean?

How are you going to determine that a site is strictly for the UK?

That result was given very quick! Nice look to it as well. It seems you are starting off on the right foot, so please keep us informed how things go. :)

Hi again,

caifeng the test perios is due to end pretty soon. I am hoping to allow url submissions towards the early part of next month.

ihelpyou, You asked about how we deterimine what is a UK site. This can be fairly complexed. Curently I use IP ranges. I will index anything that falls within a UK range. The main problem with this method is that a lot of european sites are hosted in the uk. I have found a solution to this to an extent by blocking quite a lot of european domain extensions.

But what about UK sites that are hosted in the US?

I'm sure I'm not alone :(

Hi again.

The issue with Uk sites hosted in the US is a real problem. The only real solution for this is to run all sites through an ip database. UK sites will get added but sites that aren't within UK ranges will need a manual review.

Hi UKWizz

I to have just launched a new website and finding it impossible to find search engines and directories that are free to submit to. Not like the old days.

I would be very interested in submitting my website to your search engine, but how the hell do you do it.

Or do you just rely on natural spidering.

Please advise.

hi Abertawe,
You will be able to add your site pretty soon. What I am doing just now is building an index that is purely spidered. That way I have a lot more control over the results. It also gives me a very good index for backing up. If the index ever goes spammy or starts to look bad I can always roll back.

I will post here when I include the add url page.

Thanks again.

Hi again guys, (and gals) ;)

Sorry I havent "yet" added the web index add url page, To be honest it's not yet ready for it. Before I can start taking submission I need a good solid database as a building block.

My thinking is if I have a solid foundation before allowing url's to be added then I can always rool back if things go wrong. Thats the main draw back of allowing url submissions. It could be anything that is getting added.

With reguards to the UK specific side of things UKWizz used IP filtering. Basicaly if a site gets added it then has to pass an ip test to ensure it is UK specific enough. A lot of people have asked me "What if i have a .com" To be honest it doesnt matter. So long is the IP resolved to Uk it will get in. There are exceptions... for example non UK or global extensions such as .it .es etc.. these domains abviously belong to non UK countried.

I also recently launched the UKWizz web directory. I am able to accept submissions there, although the same rukes apply, UK specific. ;)

Hope you dont mind me talking on and on. Just wanted to give you a small update.

Thanks again

The directory is manualy reviewed. So long as a site is orientated towards the UK it should get listed.

The SE was sold on 11 November to buyer 'carloricci'.

US $15,000.00 - Approximately £8,590.08.

Anyone got any news of how it's been doing recently?
