Does anyone have AOL? I would like someone to check a client site with AOL to see how it renders. I've just discovered that we have far more AOL browsers hitting the site than either I or the client anticipated.

I will PM the client site to anyone that has it as I don't think it appropriate to post it openly.

Thanks in advance...

Isn't AOL one of those spyware/scumware programs?

AOL is America Online. It's an ISP and with the connection you get the AOL browser.

Maz,

I have AOL. Please PM me the URL and I will check it out for you. Just so you know there are millions of AOL users.

The URL is in your PM box.

Yes, I know AOL has millions of users, they just don't usually feature as much as they are on this particular site, for some reason. There's thousands of the swines!

Just need to be sure they are seeing the same things as those with "normal" browsers. :)

I was lead to believe that the current AOL browser is in fact IE 5, anyone confirm that?

It is. But it has its own special AOL modifications for some unbeknown reason. At least, that is how I understand it.

I had heard that AOL took over Netscape - or was that just BS.

Yes AOL does have it's own version of an IE browser as the default. Colors in the AOL browser sometimes appear a little differently than the ones in IE.

In fact just last week Doug and I were discussing this in another forum. The colors he used in his css for the forums are one color in IE and another in AOL (same color family just a different shade)

I know there's been times (like last night) when after logging on to the internet no matter what URL I went to I would get a "no page to display" error in the AOL browser. So load the same URL in to IE a second later and it's fine, so you have to surf in IE for a while til AOL browser starts functioning again. Happens quite a bit though. It seems to occur the most when AOL is getting ready to force new files on you.

This used to work with AOL distribution disks, but I haven't tried it in a while.

Take one of the free AOL distribution disks that you can pick up in every book store, doctor's office, pet shop, funeral home, etc.

Then load the AOL browser on your PC - but don't sign up for the service. While you can't browse online with the AOL browser, you can use it to view pages stored on your hard disk.

I used to test sites with it but use an online service called Browser Photo now.

If you don't want to subscribe to a service, using the free AOL disk is easier than begging friends to view your site for you. I speak from experience!
