View Full Version : Click Report and Spider Site Checking
Lloyd

I have not receive a daily click through report since January 15 in my Inktomi account and I have pages that have not been spidered since January 13, 2002.
Anyone else having these problems or am I the only one?
Thanks in advance for responding.

Welcome to the forums Lloyd! :hi:
I do not know about this but others would know. I do know there are delays from time to time but usually work themselves out.

No Lloyd, you are not the only one. I have hundreds of pages in Inktomi paid inclusion and some seem to be affected more than others. This is an annoyance, particularly as the 48-72 hour inclusion time for new pages seems to be holding. If I am tweaking a page, I give it 4-5 days to see the results. Not ideal and something that definitely needs addressing.

Just remembered....one of the things that slows down the refresh/spidering process is having hyphenated domain names. Can't recall the reason why off the top of my head, but basically Inktomi has to do something slightly different from the norm to spider them, which takes longer.

the longer indexing time for hyphenated domains is interesting...haven't heard that before...
was it in an article? If you do remember the reasoning behind this, I'd be interested in hearing more...

I can't remember exactly the reasoning, but it was in a reply in some forum or another from Positiontech to a query about indexing times. I'll try to dig it out later and will post it here. MakeMeTop will probably know, if he's around, though.

I often find my sites are spidered every 72 hours rather than 48. It's happening at the moment. I have questioned PT about it but they always say it's the time difference (I'm in Australia) that makes it appear to take longer. I think their excuse is baloney!! It really does need addressing.

I like that excuse, it makes me laugh. I've been all over the world and 48 hours has always been 48 hours no matter where I've been. Strange that.

Thanks to all who have been replying to my post. Keep them coming guys. I must say, some of the lame excuses being given ie the Australian time zone, for poor delivery of service is actually very funny. Is it possible this company is in the wrong business? Seems a better comedian they would make.
Is it possible the spider is trying to spidered my home computer in Toronto, Canada instead of my server in California?. If that's the case, with Toronto at -6C I am afraid the little fellow is not going to make it. Then again, maybe the hours betwen Australia and California is more than 120 hours.
Do I hear, you have been had!
PEACE!

Yep I always thought 48 hours was 48 hours too
Maybe PT failed maths :D

>hyphenated domains...
No - I've not heard this before and have seen no evidence of it myself. 80% of my Inktomi URLs are on hyphenated domains and all get indexed fine - but I use hyphenated-domain.com/keyword_here.htm - I've not tried hyphenated page-names, which is where the problem may lie (if there is one).

It is worth people noting that PT does not spider your site every 48 hours, nor do any of the other Inktomi partners. All they do is maintain your site in the Inktomi frequent spidering list.
Inktomi send out their spider to the submitted list - so if there is any delay - it is Inktomi's fault - not PT's. ;)
With 100s of URLs in the program I see some glitches from time to time - but it seems to pretty much work on schedule overall.

Hi MakeMeTop
I was wondering if paid inclusion is your major marketing
success or do you do better with other programs. I mean
as far as hits are concerned.
I have several other sites I could certainly afford to pay
for inclusion, but not support PPC's for.
Do you think I would be doing myself a favor or shooting myself
in the foot. I guess $25 each won't break me. They are all sister
programs of SFI Marketing Group.

I'm having a real problem with 1-2-3webposition.com. Report says zero hits (which can't be right). It shows as being indexed. Could this be the hypen prob? Whatcha think?

Welcome to the forums Gerry! :hi:
Is that your domain? If so, the hyphens would not have anything to do with you getting ranks or hits. As long as you are optimized for your keyword phrases, you will get the ranks.

It has been indexed now for at least a month and is showing zero hits.

I will have to try to find that thing about hyphenated domain names and post it here to clear up any confusion. I don't want to be starting rumours. Later......

Well Gerry, you can be indexed anywhere but don't get hits on your keyword phrases. You need to be optimized for your phrases. If you give us the url, we can take a look and give some pointers.

:hi: Gerry...where are you checking your rankings and hits? I don't know how accurate Inktomi's click tracking is...I don't think they track all engines that their data appears in...so you could be getting hits and it's just not registering with Inktomi tracking data...
if you give us the URL we'd be able to give you better advice...

Seems that I am having pretty much the same problem but I do not have a hyphen in the url, just a number.( http://off2vegas.com ) The last report I had showed Jan. 15 as the last date of updating url.
ps: I am new to all this web site stuff (thats right a newbie) and would appreciate any help anyone can offer as to meta tags etc. Please take a look at the site and let me know what you think I should do to make it more search engine friendly.
Thanks much

Welcome to the forums off2vegas! :hi:
That has nothing to do with your updating.
Also, please start a new thread in 'web site promotion' forum to ask about what you should do with the site.
You may wish to make a signature file as well. :)
