Hi all:
I have noticed that inthe past two weeks AV has updated their index and also that last week AV gave me 100 hits. Not a lot (less then 2% of my traffic) but still it has been some time since I have seen that much from AV, and considering that the recent update cost me much ranking..........
Anybody else notice any changes?

I'm seeing a few more hits but nothing that really amounts to much. Maybe they will come back.

I also have noticed an increase in traffic from Altavista. I'd be very surprised if this was the result of an increase in market share, however. Their reindex caused a major shift in the rankings, so I imagine those of who have been actively optimizing sites in the last few months benefited with increased traffic.

I have also noticed an increase in traffic this month. Funny, one of the sites getting more visitors was only properly optimised late last year and whilst it's in the index it does not come up for any of the keywords I optimised for. Descriptions etc is also from an older version from about 8 months ago.

Yes I have noticed an increase but like you the pages returned
are about 6 months old. Maybe they are advertising offline and getting more searchers that way??
Strangest thing just occurred with this post
Just scrolled down to send it up and suddenly the full text of an email which I have in my mail box (Eudora) ready to send appeared on this page:confused:

mmm... I am seeing way increased activity from scooter, have not seen a spider so agressive for a while.
Trafic still low from AV, but this maybe a sign of a (hopes) change?

I have seen scooter everyday for the last 2 weeks and yesterday alone I received 136 page views from AV. IMO AV saw the writing on the wall that said something like “provide relevant results or die!”.

Hmmm...I was about to post something along the lines of saying, "as long as the top 5 results are paid for...blah blah..." but then I noticed that my business site is actually on the first page for search engine optimization! Mel's is also! Wonder if they're s-ucking up to forum members to get us to say good things about them?

Well, I went from top ten on that term a couple months ago to NO WHERE to be found.
I guess they do not like what I have to say about ProBoost/Infospider etc. They dropped me at of sight. Not good business practices if you ask me. Of course, I noticed little traffic from a top ten anyway so no great loss at all!!!

Well, I'm constantly speaking badly of them also, so I guess it's just the luck of the draw this month. They don't actually have my latest page update. I notice that RW is on the second page. It's rare for Highrankings to beat out RW on any engine! (It really shouldn't imo.)

I just checked a couple site's ranking, sheesh, many top 10's that were not there before!!!
Yes!!
Really funny because I just let the Pay per include run out cause I didn't think I was getting any rankings, or hits, but I have.
Still not renewing...

Well Scooter is visiting my site right now for the 3rd time this week. Fat lot of good it does me though as my content in AV is very old. And I PAID for indexing!!

I finally bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago for one site and paid for one URL, as it was nowhere to be seen in the index, after submitting over 8 months ago. 5 days later (before the paid indexing began) it finally came up in pos 7 & 8 in the SERPS!! What a p*** off!! Still it had a very old description so when it was finally indexed at least the description was changed.
BTW - it has some picture thingy next to the listing. I haven't paid for this. Is it just luck of the draw??

You got a pic thingy free? LOL! I am thinking this is an error by InfoSpider. Let us know if it makes any difference to the click thru rate :D What's it a pic of?

LOL - a padlock. But hey it's a computer security firm. The pic is froma previous design.
It's here if you want to check it out:http://au.altavista.com/q?pg=q&q=computer+security+australia&kl=&what=au
A while ago some sites had these images but i can't remember why - it may have first started before InfoSpider. one of my clients had one for a while.
I'll let you know if it seems to boost click thru although I am not holding my breath ;)

From a recent article by Paul Bruemmer...Will AltaVista regain its glitter? Only time will tell. It doesn't have the traffic it used to command, but it's still a top choice for many serious researchers and is often cited as a source by librarians. Stay tuned -- AltaVista plans to make an announcement on February 19.An Eye on Third Generation Search (http://www.clickz.com/search/opt/article.php/973321)

Getting in the top 10 on Google is easy compared to even showing up in the top 100 on AV. I paid for submission on a couple of my sites. I tweak the sites every couple of weeks with no success. Yes - scooter has been visiting my sites also but I'm sure it doesn't mean anything. Maybe AV will start showing Google results?

Something is up at AV they have been spidering my site like crazy (come to think of it several spiders including Googlebot, Scooter, Slurp and Fastwebcrawler have been showing signs of hyperactivity in the past ten days) thye have dropped three of my pages and added another 4 so they are reindexing to some degree.
I like the new AV Algo perhaps because I have some nice rankings without trying.

About two months ago I thougth I would give AV paid submission a try. A little over a year ago, I had several sites showing pretty good results in AV but over time they dropped rankings and no matter how I optimized, I couldn't get them back. I spent some cash on the weekly update so I could better guage my optimization but still no results. I've pretty much given up on getting any reliable traffic from AV and now I just experiment with AV.
