How important is it for your physical address to be displayed somewhere on your web site?
I am interested to find out whether my site www.therealperth.com will be accepted on Yahoo!, I submitted it last Sunday.
My site is non-commercial i.e. it isn't selling anything, although I do hope to sell a limited amount of advertising on it.
I would rather leave my physical address off the site, but if it absolutely necessary then I will put it on.
Thanks,

Welcome Joe Bananas!

Real nice site! I take it that you paid to get listed?

If so, I would not take any chances and put in an address. Yahoo loves to see an address. You are always better off.

Another option is using a P.O. Box address for your site if you do not want to list th actual address of your company.

Welcome MsSearch! Good to see you.

I believe I have seen you elsewhere also. :)

Hope you learn a bunch here and hope you enjoy the company here.

If you submitted paid biz express, I wouldn't worry about it. If they reject you for it, then you simply put it on and then do the appeal thang. If you've submitted for free, I would definitely put on a physical address. It will give you more credibility. Although, I don't think we have a physical address on our Rank Write site, and we did get that in through the free submit (eventually). We are really not a "physical" company, so I don't think it was necessary.

Thus said, a physical address lends much more credibility to your web site and your company. If you are planning to do business on your site, I would highly recommend using a physical address to instill confidence in your customers. I have always put my address on my business web site. I think it's important. There are just too many scam sites out there. You should also have your telphone number on the site, and of course, your email address.

:hi: to everyone!

Thanks to everyone who has replied so far. After reading your replies I have decided to add my address. I added it to the home page, the "Contact" page and the site "FAQs" page. I don't think Yahoo! will have visited yet.
I am not a business, it is just me that maintains the site so I submitted through the free listing option.
To Webwhiz:
I came to this forum after you recommended it on the rankwrite newsletter, great newsletter BTW.
I'm not going to put my phone number on the site because I don't really want people to contact me any way other than e-mail. It is my home address that I have just put on the site and I don't want people turning up at my home for whatever reason uninvited either, if that happens then I will take the address off again.
WHOA! The Snow White virus has just landed in my Inbox:mad: I know not to open it.
How do I know whether I've got in or not, other than checking periodically. Do they let you know either way?

If they accept you the free way, sometimes they will send email and sometimes not.

If they reject, no email will be sent. I guess you just have to check periodically.

Hey Joe,

Glad you like Rank Write. We have a ton of fun putting it together each week!

Don't worry about the snow white virus if you didn't open the attachment. Just delete the email completely and you will be okay.

As to your phone number, I don't blame you, what you say makes sense. If/when you really grow your business, you may want to think about getting a specific phone number for it, but for now, it sounds like you don't need one. My sister has successfully run an internet business that sells a product online and has never used a phone number and only uses a p.o. box to take orders. It may put off some people, but she still seems to get plenty of sales. Never got into Yahoo the free way (back when businesses could), but I'm sure if she felt like paying, we could get her in.

As to your own Yahoo listing...don't hold your breath for a free listing. It IS still possible, but you'll probably have to keep submitting every 2 months or so and use their support email every so often. If your site truly has informative value, you'll have to keep mentioning that to them, and hopefully they will eventually see it! But I'd be surprised if you find yourself listed any sooner than 6 - 12 months. Let us know how it goes!

6 to 12 months? :(

I don't think I mentioned that it was the UK and Ireland Yahoo! that I submitted to - will that make a difference, or are all the sites reviewed from the main Yahoo!?

And I just zapped that virus without opening it. That is the first virus I've had in a year of being online!

Does anyone know who the SE bots named VINCENT and FROGGER are from? I assume they are SE spiders as I believe they have names like those. They showed up in my logs last week after I submitted to about twenty SEs last weekend?

Hey Joe, I do not know who those spiders are... maybe someone else knows?

Hi Joe:

Looked around the net for information on those spiders, but couldn't find anything with an Agent name like that, even though I did find three lists of spiders with more than 1000 spiders listed.

Best bet might be at http://fantomaster.com/fasvsspy01.html where you can submit your logs for verification of spider visits. There is a great list of spiders there (880 for Inktomi alone) but this is a subscription service, and since I don't use cloaking I don't subscribe to it

answering to the original question, I think URL revelance to your topic is quite important, at least, to Yahoo editors.

Say, if I'm one of the editors at yahoo, I would scan for sites that they know and then sites that relate to the topic. A URL with topic keyphrases makes your site look more professional.

My 2 cents.
