Hello! Im going to submit to looksmart but going to do it through msn.se. As i understand msn use looksmart.

Does it make any difference if i submit through msn.se or should i go to looksmarts submit page?

hey crifer, it was discussed in another thread that you are better off to submit directly to Looksmart USA and not se or another country. LS US will get you into the others where submitting to a particular country will not get you into the US directory.

Yes, but you are taking the iniative to learn crifer. That is the first step. Many out there do not wish to learn. I hear this daily as they think you build a site and automatically do well. :)

Hi Crifer:

By all means submit direct to Looksmart, and be sure you have your site ready for inspection, and have worked up a good and acceptable title and description.

If you do have problems with your title/description remember you only have thirty days to modify it free otherwise you have to pay another fee.
There are some good thread here about this - you can find them with the search function.

Doug

Yes.. you are very right about that, i didn't know anything about SEO when i made the page that's in my signature and i have to pay for that now. I can now see how important it is to design a site that works for both the end-user and SE witch is not a walk in the park. But if you can make it right from the begining you have alot of advantages. A highrank in a SE is alot of free credits to your site and it gives an extra value when the end-user se the page and can find usefull information.

Knowlege is the nr 1 wepon...

Great advice...

Hi Crifer:

Just remembered that you site is in Swedish,

Looksmart guidelines state:

"Your site must be in English and be of use to an audience located in the United States. Sites not appropriate for the United States should be submitted to the LookSmart Directory covering that market. Please find a list of our global directories in the top right corner of the LookSmart homepage."

Look smart does not appear to have a
Swedish language directoryso you may lose your money if you submit to them.

Perhaps it is better to rethink you submission strategy

hey crifer, by submitting to LS SE you will get into MSN SE as well. You just will not be in LS US.

the MSN SE submit link takes you to the LS UK submit page if I was seeing things correctly...

Before you submit to LS UK make sure to read thier terms and conditions as I believe they are similiar to the US.

Hi crifer,

To get into MSN SE you could also submit to Inktomi.

I read the terms for LS UK but not for US, i don't think there is so much difference, probably only the language bit.. But since the page is only in swedish im not going to try LS US.

sanity

I looked it up, it's cheaper to submit to inktomi and you stay in there index for a year. I haven't read anything about how long im going to be in the index if i submit to LS UK.

Maybe you or someone else know the answer to that question ?

Crifer:

The difference is that if you are successful in submitting to LS you are in for life and you get a great ranking boost at MSN. You will normally have your site spidered by Ink once you are in LS

If you pay Ink for inclusion ONLY those pages you pay for are included in the index for one year (although they are spidered more often than once a week) but when you stop paying there is no gurantee that your pages will remain in the index.

Since there is no guarantee that LS UK is going to accept a site in Swedish, you should proceed carefully.

I know they are going to accept, the page you submit from is in swedish and in the terms it's written that the page must be in swedish to be accepted. It feels like im going to sumbit to msn.se but im still not sure...

Once again, It's not easy being a newbe :)

The top results at msn.se are taken from the local looksmart directory. If you want top results at msn.se it is this that you have to submit to - particularly if you are only targeting the Swedish market. There is no point in submitting to Looksmart.com as these results come later. So submit to the local version (even if this is, as it seems to be, Looksmart UK).

The rest of the advice seems fine, make sure your site is optimised and go for a good, keyword rich description and you will be fine.
