I'm looking for any leads on directories of just Vortals (verticals, theme directories/engines, specific industry targeted sites that network with others in their industry).

Am also looking for information on how to advertise and target them, good advertising deals, and other vortal promotional ideas.

Blogs are also included in this request.

Many thanks!

Kim Krause

All I do now Kim is to do a lot of searches for directories, etc that fit in with my client's market. I then will submit to the ones that fit.

I also wish I had a big o'l list that made it easy.

SearchKing has the most vortals on the planet, over 4000 of them. All most all of them are specific to region or subject.

hey lotsOcash, I looked at Bob's site but it is a directory like the others. We want a big o'l list spelled out of the specific directories, verticals, country specific, etc.

Anyone else have anything?

Yes thank you for the welcome, feedback and clarification.

I'm doing research for a client, but I can also use the info for my own site. Odd as it sounds, searching for just Vortals and industry specific sites that welcome industry specific networking and advertising is easier said than done. I've found a lot of dead URLs in the engines, making this all the more frustrating.

I thought that blog owners might be an even better source for info.

I'm open to all ideas and leads.

All help deeply appreciated,

Kim Krause

I agree Kim. Very difficult. I do know that Savvy has a submitter that does all of this automatically as to what pertains to the site and the info the user inputs in. I am thinking about using this for my clients as it is Very hard and time consuming finding any specific information.

Here is a small group of Vortals. It is by no means complete, but slowly it is growing. I hope this helps your out some.

I know it's hard finding a resource like you described, now, try to imagine building a resource like that.

Well, Bob's site is not like any other directory. It only looks like it because it's not ready to release or promote to the public. It is still the most comprehensive resource on the net dealing with vortals exclusively, it's just kind of hidden.

I'll give you guys a couple of links you can check out and hopefully find some use for that is not available to the general public yet.

First there is the portal directory. This is the directory portion of the site, (not the search engine, the directory), that lists only our portal partners. There are over 200 topic specific and regionally specific portals listed there that have all been reviewed by our webmaster Mike Rotter, who takes his job very seriously. These are all quality portals about thier chosen topic.

There is also a list of over 600 portal partners at http://www.searchkingportal.com

You will see what I mean about not being ready when you see this page. This is just a list but the challenge we had to overcome was in converting server logs into page views and then assinging those to the proper portal. The idea of this page was to get advertisers to the portal partners. Eventually this page will have a way for the portals themselves to list their site with a description that would give you specific information to help you decide on which portal you want to submit to or advertise on. for now it's just a list.

Keep in mind that even those portals who can't send you a lot of traffic, they can give you soemthing of value. Anyone know what that something is?

Like I said, it's just not ready for prime time yet but I hope some of you can find something of value from it.

wow Bob, I did not expect you to list them as I knew they were hidden right now. :)

Great list!

You can check CNET as they have a nice list of SE's. Many of them are niche search engines. Oddly enough, when you wish to find them by doing a search, these turn up under "niche search engines" vs doing a search for "vortals" or "portals."

Hope this info helps. I'm sorry I can't really list my research sources, as much of my competitors would much rather steal someone else's hard work and research rather than invest their own time into building a quality database of SE's for submission purposes.

I spent a year and a half doing the research, and cultivating relationships with the SE owners in order to achieve what I have to this day. :)
