we had a number of search phrases that consistently ranked high in both aol and netscape, then suddendly not at all.

I've heard that both of these are now getting some (or most?) of their results from Inktomi. True or false? If false, what would account for such a dramatic change in rankings?

Welcome tgorski!

hmmm, AOL sometimes will flipflop and show Inktomi listings before DMOZ but as far as I know, they show DMOZ first also.

Remember that not only does AOL take your title and description from DMOZ into consideration when positioning, but they also look at the content of the page. Maybe they changed their algo slightly? I do not know.

AOL is not one of my main engines as have clients who have good ranks but little hits from them.

My guess is they changed the algo as your page does not look do be doing anything suspicious. Although, I would delete all the unnecessary meta tags you have. You only need title, desc, robots, and keyword tags.

PLUS, maybe put in more content as it is Very important.
