Here again we have an article clearly teaching everyone how to spam the search engines.

http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/01/23/index1a_page3.html?tw=e-business

Scroll down to view 'crawler page'.

I cannot believe people think that things like this do not manipulate ranks. They DO! Period. And they are spam.

View the hotwired 'crawler' page. Spam.

Maybe we're reading it differently Doug, but I don't see it myself.

I agree the way that Hotwired crawler page is done is "ill advised" - not too useful to humans. But the article itself is really tallking about a site map.

Yes. That crawler page of their's is very useless to humans and is not meant for them. It is only meant for the spiders, which is spam. Why not explain how to make a good site map page instead of explaining that this page is not meant for indexing so simply put a bunch of links on it that the spiders will find?

I believe in education of the right ways to do things.

And then there is this in the same article:
There are a lot of automated search engine submission services that you can use to submit your site to as many search engines as possible. The one most recommended by people I talked to is Submit It, an early player that did so well, Microsoft bought them -- Submit It is now part of MSN bCentral, and it charges a minimum fee of US$59 to keep a few URLs submitted for a year.
I always thought of that service as very bad but was informed the other day that the links in that service are not updated very often. Not to mention it is automated. How can they recommend this? How can anyone is my question.
