Greetings,

This is my first post here. It looks like a professional and comfortable place to share information.

Re Measuring Link Popularity:

I'm looking for some suggestions as to the best online tool(s) site(s), for periodically getting a list of non SE sites with a link to your site, (or to another site). Ideally it would be one that spiders the whole web (correct term?), or at least the top ten SE's and directories.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Welcome to the forums CaptBob! :hi:

What you are looking for is something automated to increase your link popularity. That is a no-no. The best way is to physically visit a site and if you like it put a link to it on your site first with a description of the site. Then, send an email to the webmaster to show him the link you gave him. Let him know you liked his/her site and that he/she does not have to link back but a link would be appreciated.

Anything you do to simply influence link pop for ranks is called 'link spam' and should be avoided.

I agree with Doug on this one but I would also start out link pop. for a site by getting the site listed in Yahoo, Looksmart and ODP (DMOZ)...regarding link pop and a new site, this is my starting point.

and welcome to the forums...:hi:

CaptBob do you have the google tool bar? The google tool bar will show a partial list of sites that link to you. I have yet to find a tool (software) that will find every site that links to you.

Hi Guys,

Apparently I was misunderstood. I'll try again. I am looking for a tool that will enable me to see who (else, other than SEs) has a link to my site, ie businesses, etc.

Thanks again,

CaptBob

There's a few tools out there that will look up links to your site. www.linkpopularity.com is one such, www.linkpopularitycheck.com is another. These will give you a good idea of the inbound links and they cover at least some of the top ten search engines.

Hi Captbob,

Welcome to the forums! There is an excellent program written by Eugeney Lomakin called RankSpy from http://www.searchutilities.com that will do exactly what you are asking.

The program requires that you at least have IE 6.0 installed on your computer for it to work properly. It's not a bad price.

The program searches in 2 modes. In one mode it will find all instances of your website in the SE's (pages that are indexed)

Your pages from your domain will be listed and each SE will show if it has that page indexed or not.

In the other mode it will list all of the URLs that are linked to you and will display each search engine that has that indexed.

It's really a great little program. I have and use it also.

Hope this helps!

Hi Captbob :hi:

Welcome to the forums.

I agree with Barny, Marketleap is great. Covers heaps of the engines and gives you a comparison to the number of links other sites have.
