Hi everyone. I have been busy putting new web site up. Now I have run into a problem with Netscape 4.51. I keep getting "The parameter is incorrect." message when I click the BACK button. Could some take a look at this, and please tell me what the heck have I done wrong?

Once there, scroll down, and click on the Cost link. Once cost is loaded, click on the BACK button - the error will occur.
Thanks for any help. Lee

hey Lee, I used NS 4.7 to view and it worked just fine.
You have done some work on the site. Looks great!

Hi Doug....thank...yes, I've been working pretty hard redesigning the new site....thanks for the compliment. I was kinda hesitant to use a black background, but so far the visitors seem to stay around longer than they did on the old one so I guess using black didn't hurt anything!
But getting back the the netscape problem, do you have any idea what could be the cause of the problem? I've never seen this error before and I didn't do anything different than I did with the old one.....at least I don't think I did! I sure don't want Yahoo sniffing around and having a fit!
Thanks, Lee

I have not seen that before either.
Anyone else?

Hi Lee,
I tried it on NS 4.08 and couldn't produce the error.
Great work though! Looks real nice.

Thanks Blue, I don't understand why I get the error. I'll be checking the pages, and then all of a sudden...the error message. Could it be the version of Netscape that I'm using?
I think I hate Netscape! Is it your opinion that I should be ok when Yahoo comes snooping around? I don't want to lose any ranking.
I hope the redesign does well. I'm testing it for two weeks to see if it has any effect on my brides. Everyone in here has been a BIG help....THANK YOU! This board is great! I especially would like to thank Heather Martin for all her copywriting help. Without a doubt, THIS is THE place to come for help.

Hello Lee:
How about Removing your Cookies & Temporary Internet Files?
I've had a Similar Problem before, maybe even try clicking Ctrl & F5 , clearing your Cache, see if that clears the Problem.
I'm only saying this because if they are Using close to the same Browser you are, it sounds like your problem could be Local, on your Puter?
I'm at the Bottom of the Information Food Chain here, so maybe others that are more Learned can help you more, than I.
LOL, I'm here to Learn & I've read almost all of the Post here. Plenty of Nice Decent Acting Professionals here.
Soon I be taking up Collection from everybody here for New Pair of Glasses. :)
Please Post here & Let us Know what the Problem was? TIA

Hi Lee,
Yeah, Netscape can drive one to the brink!
I'll refer you to this thread (http://www.ihelpyouservices.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=175&highlight=yahoo+and+netscape). For the reasons stated in the thread I would try to resolve the error. Although I'm not sure which version of Netscape 4 the editors use, until you find out for sure that they don't use the version you're having the error with, I wouldn't consider myself "safe".
Does anyone know which specific version they are using?

Hey DJ,
Good to see you're still lurking.....and I hear ya on the glasses thing. LOL

:hi:
I have encountered similar problems with Netscape but I emptied my cache, temp files, etc (as DJ5A suggested) ... and that seemed to fix the problem.

Hello Lee, nice site! I could not replicate the problem, actually I could not find the back button mentioned. But I did see some other issues that you may want to address. You are using CSS2 and absolute positioning. I surf the web at 1024 x 768. The default font size for IE is medium. I've taken a screen shot of what is happening so you can see for yourself that absolute positioning may not be the way to go. If you do use it, I would highly recommend fixed text sizes.
The other problem I ran into was that I could not read half of the type at the font size required to eliminate the absolute positioning problems (small). That is why I would suggest fixed text sizes so users cannot destroy your planned layout.

P.S. I've worked on a couple of wedding site projects and black was a definite no-no with the marketing teams. The overall consensus was to use light colors, pastels and such to eminate a feeling of happiness and joy. IMO black does not do this. Just a thought.
The other major problems are print issues. I'm sure some will want to print pages from your site for information purposes. Black backgrounds are notorious for gobbling up toner and if your text is not white (ffffff) it may become too fuzzy to read since colors print in grayscale.

Ditto what pageone said. I didn't dare beat my drum about black web sites again for fear of being stoned.
Though I will say that if you take momentous occasions in life then I would say black is for funerals, not weddings.

I didn't dare beat my drum about black web sites again for fear of being stoned.Maz, black background web sites are history as a general rule of thumb. There are certain industries where dark backgrounds work.
If you are designing a site for readability and printability of content, then any type of color backgrounds are going to be an issue, particularly when it comes to print. I've had one site in my career that I built using black backgrounds and it worked. The pages that I thought would be printed ended up with a link to a page that was stripped of all background color and was formatted properly to print.
Black is definitely a color for funerals as I have one of the largest memorial parks in the world as a client. And, believe it or not, they don't use one spec of black on the site, except for text. The colors are more on the light side and cheerful. Even when it comes to death, I don't think people want to be surrounded by black too long. Tradition is one thing, moving on with life is another!
I'm a strong advocate against dark backgrounds! Although I'll have to admit, with the right content and proper use of complimentary colors, dark backgrounds can create the impact that you might be looking for.

Thanks for the help everyone!
I cleared my cache and didn't have the problem again. Thanks for the suggestion DJ....I appreciate the help.
I'm afraid I didn't understand what "pageoneresults" was trying to tell me, although I did not like what I saw on the screen shot he was kind enough to send. I used Dreamweaver to build these pages, and as far as I know, I am not using cascading style sheets if that is what the CSS2 stands for. Also, I really don't know what "absolute positioning" is (as if you couldn't tell)!
Could you be a little more explicit as to how I should go about fixing the size of the text please.
As to the debate about black backgrounds, believe me, I know exactly what you are saying. I gave this a lot of thought before I launched this test. I was very hesitant to use a black background for a wedding site. It is a big departure from my other site which WAS pastel colors.
I'm running this test for 2 weeks to see if there is a difference in sign-ups. So far, the numbers have gone up just a bit...so it doesn't seem to be hurting anything.... at least not yet! The main reason I changed from pastels, was that I wanted to stand apart from my competitors and have a much more elegant and tailored site.
PS...Mazy, I wouldn't stone you...you're adorable, you've been a HUGE help to me in getting my site up and running.
Thanks everyone, Lee:cheers:

Hi Lee
Doug has had problems with Add Free Stats causing Netscape to hang. He has now dropped Add Free Stats from the forum.
I've asked Doug to post back to this thread when he next logs in, but I noticed you were online now so I thought I'd mention it.

Yes. Addfreestats seemed to make pages hang/freeze with the Netscape browser for whatever reason. That might be your problem as well.

Thanks Doug and Alan. It's funny that you brought Addfreestats up. I was just in here looking to see who other people were using to check their stats.
I've been having some strange things show up on my stat report....like one page being hit 5 and 6 times by a visitor (I'm guessing that means they are refreshing the page repeatedly for some reason). I've had a number of different people with different browsers visit to see if they had to refresh pages, and so far, no one has had to do it. I don't understand what is happening.
I do want to get a new stat recorder and I'm trying to find one now that offers tracking of multiple pages and which keywords are being used .....any suggestions?
This forum is such a HUGE help to people like me....thanks so much.

I switched to advlogger from www.perlonline.com. Seems to be very good and at a $30 one-time fee it's hard to go wrong. I believe they will install it for you for free if you need help.

Yup, advlogger is good. I have been using it for some time.
A $30.00 set up fee – I guess it helps to get into stuff early, I didn’t pay a dime.
This is also a very good free log analyzer

It also comes in a english verision.
