No Lycos category on the forums? Never noticed before. Seems there should be lycos before there's wisenut!

Anyway, I was just looking at Lycos (which I never do), noticed something new in their results. Now the results have a clickable "fast forward" link next to them. When you click it, it opens up a frame and a navigational bar on the left that shows the other results. A way of keeping you at Lycos, I guess.

Kind of cool, although when I click on a page, I would rather be at that page, not in a frame. I guess you can still do that though by clicking on the title.

Has anyone noticed this before and if so, do you know how long it's been in place?

Yep. They use to be very close to Fast results anyway but now we are finding out differently. Not sure how important it would be to have a Lycos forum but will consider it.

Anyone get any traffic from Lycos? When I change the forums around a bit, it will allow me to have many more forums available.

No, I hadn't noticed that change at Lycos before.

Yes, that is my thoughts also so thought we could use Fast for them. But, when the forums are changed, we'll add a Lycos forums also.

I think it's important to have a WiseNut/the rest of them forum. WiseNut may grow up someday.

From what our UK friends tell us, Lycos is a major player over there. That's why I was surprised not to see it have it's own category. If anything you could dump HotBot which is just a piece of crap full of ads! (Did I just say that?)

Nothing will be done until I change up the forums. Patience sweetie. :square:

No hurry. I don't care much about Lycos. I just had never noticed it was missing here before!

I should highlite what we do have in here:

A separate MSN forum as they obviously are important and have their very own algo.

A separate Fast forum.

Things others may not have. :)

Maybe you could just temporarily make it a Fast/Lycos forum? That would easily do the trick until you're ready to make the big changes.

Or I could see if I can figure out how to do it, if you'd like. :)

Okay. I temporally added Lycos to the description of the forum. :)

I can. Refresh your browser or open up another browser. It's there. :)

Well, I changed browsers, closed browsers, deleted caches, deleted histories, still seeing the same plain old Fast on the main page of the forums. The only thing I didn't do was delete cookies or reboot.

How strange.

The description used to read:

alltheweb.com; Strongly up and coming search engine that you should definitely consider in your search engine promotions. Find out here what this engine likes and dislikes

It now reads

alltheweb.com; Strongly up and coming search engine that you should definitely consider in your search engine promotions. Lycos is also covered in here.

LOL! :green: okay. I guess I DID see the changes! I was looking for a title change! hehehe

And then, Alan, when you said it was obvious, I really figured I was missing something!

You got something against old Lycos that you gotta hide it, Dougie? Considering all the UK members here, it deserves a little bit more respect than that!

Doug

Technically, Fast is in the same mould as Inktomi - not a SE but a provider. alltheweb is to Fast as Hotbot is (or was) to Inktomi - a showcase.

Fast powers lots of searches. There's an old list on WmW (not sure how accurate it still is) here:

LOL Trust me peoples, I know the relationships, etc. I find this is another area that is of little importance to me right now. Many things on the plate with the wording of a particular forum down that list of priorities right now. :)

I find it fascinating that after 7 months, this is the first time anyone even has mentioned Lycos as a separate forum. I find them little in importance but am more than willing to give a separate forum When The Time Comes. :)

Please let me get around to changing up the forums. I do not wish to make changes until I am ready to.

Besides, I think the forums are doing rather well as is. Of course, that is IMO only. :)
