Sounds a little cheap. Let me throw a few at you that I have used or currently use
www.ghoulnet.com (UK)
www.venturesonline.com (US)
www.infodoma.com (US)
All are good and well worth talking to. VenturesOnline has a particularly good reputation. You might want to take a look at www.webhostingtalk.com and search for some of the companies on your list. Never know, might help.

Hey highman, it may sound like a steal, but there is some fine print there which you won't be too happy with (shared IP).
Q: Do I get my own IP address with my hosting account?
A: When we began hosting 3 years ago, we offered an IP address with each account. This was because many of the browsers did not support the so called "host header" or "name only" way of doing this. Today, 99% or more of the browsers on the Internet support this method. Since IP addresses are so scarce, we must justify their use. As such, we do not give out IP addresses by default. You can request one for $10.00 per month.
Okay, your own unique IP is mandatory so that adds $10.00 per month to the $5.00 per month now making it $15.00 per month. And, if you read on and want to use other features that we utilize in our industry, you add another $5.00 here, $5.00 there and next thing you know, you are paying the average going rate.
They are too good to be true!

These days you expect to pay more for your own IP. The going rate is around $10 . But per year not per month. However, I think the SEO industry may be a little behind the times on this one. IP addresses are becoming scarce and most responsible hosts are limiting their use (and being limited by whichever organisation gives these out - hosts have to justify how many they have). My thinking is that search engines are well aware of this and the days of banning by IP are coming to an end.
Might be wrong.

Hello markymark. Yes, your point is well taken. I sometimes forget that I am spoiled and work with a host who has less than 300 hosting clients and quite a few IP's that are unused. We could probably go another year or so and not have to worry about shared IP's.
For some reason, I just don't feel comfortable sharing at this phase of the game. There are still issues with shared IP's and until those are nonexistent, I'll gladly pay the monthly fees I now pay for the excellent service and features that I receive.

Yeah, I take your point also, but it is becoming a non-issue as shared hosting is, whether you like it or not, the future of web hosting. The search engines know this and are perfectly capable of banning by domain and not IP.

Anyhow. Highman, if you want your own IP, both VenturesOnline and InfoDoma will provide one for certain. Can't remember about Ghoulnet though.

Great, thanks for all your input, the site is currently sat on a shared IP so I have no alarm bells with that issue, most spiders nowadays are http 1.05 (they read the host headers) so can determine the domain
thanks again... off to do some research :)
