View Full Version : MSN & Yahoo Problem

I have had my site, www.mothersfamilyrings.com, live for about 3 months now. I have all my pages spidered in Google, but was having problems getting them all spidered in Yahoo and MSN for some reason. MSN actually only showed the URL, no title, snippet, or description. I looked today and my listing is no longer in the MSN or Yahoo index.

Is there something I may be doing wrong in the code? When I use the site: tool in Google, I get a ton of:

Could this be a problem?

Thanks.

I don't know anything about php. It seems that sometimes SEs have problems with the session ids. You should do a mod_rewrite to make the URLs SE friendly. I think this would also make them more user friendly.

That's not a session id it is pID and only contains two digits I find it hard to believe that could be interpreted as a sessionID, (at least not a programmatic language or server generated sessionID because they seem to always be 8 digits/chars or greater) by anyone with half a clue, including a crawler. If google has indexed it, it indicates SessdionID isn't a problem for it and likely isn't for any other SE.

I'd still try to eliminate the qstring in the url but wouldn't go so far as a re-write rule which IMO, is almost always the solution of those not very innovative or capable of thinking outside the box.

MSN's bot seems to IMO, like lots of links to a site with dynamic pages (querystring in URL paths), Yahoo!, well it's also real slow if there aren't many links to a site.

I strongly recommend exhausting all alternatives before implementing a server resource intensive solution like a re-write rule or url re-write component on NT. As PerlMongers say "there's always more than one way to do it". I'd add some are always better than others they just require a little more thought and work but the results are longer lasting with less maintenance and scaling problems. That's my opinion others likely disagree but... that's why we discuss these solutions.:D

But where do they come from?

they seem to be inappropriately sized pop-ups, images the same size as those already visible on the page. Plus (at a quick look) I found no pages with links to such pop-ups.

I don't have any knowledge (and little understanding) of dynamic pages, but I know enough to know that

(a) SEs have problems with them
(b) Each SE seems to treat different dynamic issues in different ways.
(c) Unless your site is huge, making the URLs more SE friendly won't break the average server, or slow things down too much

So regardless of whether SEs ought to have a problem with your pages - I think it's quite possible that they do; even if it's a simple error in the set up.

Hopefully a Dynamic Expert will happen along shortly ...

BTW Webmaster T said "That's my opinion others likely disagree but... that's why we discuss these solutions." Exactly; and where possible we do it with rubbishing other people, too ;)

Weird outburst.

We can argue about whether spammers are people too - I don't think so.

However, even you will (hopefully) admit that they have done something to annoy, and that a reaction is understandable, even if you - as a spammer's friend - don't approve.

I hope we can also agree that your attack on Connie was entirely unasked for and undeserved; you are most welcome to disagree with him. And me.

You are most welcome to defend spammers, if that makes you happy. All fine by me.

But totally unprovoked attacks on any member - mod, supermod, "newbie" or whoever else, will not be ignored.

I don't know why you started this; but you started this. I'm simply reacting to your childish rant.

"Spammers are people too?" :bs:
"it is falsely said you didn't resign but were removed" poop:

But I thank you for your confession to being a "Spammer's Friend" - Tell me, when did you join the Dark Side - was it after you resigned, or before? Think carefully ...

BTW - my 'zero telerance to spammers' does extend to spammer's friends; I don't mind what they do on other forums, I just feel this one is more useful without them.:hi: :hi: - but I don't think Doug would ban you for one drunken outburst. Why would he?

When I first visited your home page, I saw a parameter 'zenid' in the urls(session id). But, not able to see it again after reloading the home page. When I added an item to the cart, i saw the following url,
http://www.mothersfamilyrings.com/products/1number_of_uploads=0add.html

Have you already re-written the URLs? had you have session ids in the urls, previously?

Sir according to Terry there are no sessions IDs involved. I don't know. Not that familiar with PHP and don't intend to be.

I thought anything after a question mark was a session ID. I have never heard of a PID so regardless of Terry's little jab I learned something.

Q I really appreciate your defense, but I usually ignore Terry when he takes jabs at me. He likes to do that for some reason. I think I know why but that is JMO.

Terry you certainly got out of bed on the wrong side when you replied to Q.
I resigned as a Mod because this forum is going to hell in a hand basket!
That's what a lot of people would like to believe. Not the case at all. So Quad... defend your fellow Mod, but... don't slag me for what is done here routinely, with more personal condemnation and vitriole, with few Mods questioning the appropriateness of it!
What was inappropriate about my post. ?

I resigned, and AFAIK, all the others Mods involved in the mass exodus resigned
What Mass Exodus? I hardly call 4 or 5 moderators resigning as a Mass Exodus.

Yes. There is no session ID in the url posted by onlyif. When we first visit his home page there are sessions ids in the URLs. After that it will be taken out from the URL. Just now i went to his home page and following is the URL on "one stone" link.

Webmaster T, you sound very bitter. Why put yourself through all the bitterness when you are free to move on?

wowsie Terry, where did that come from?

hmm. That's not what you told me when you left? Is that what you really think? If so, why are our visitor counts going up monthly? Going to hell? I DON'T THINK SO. :)

And yes; You don't have to read in here. We aren't tieing you up and forcing you to read and post. :D I've NOT changed my ways or the way I run this place for 4 years now. Not sure why some seem to think I should? LOL

And yes; 4 or so mods leaving over time is a small percentage of the total mods we have. I believe we still have like 16-18 moderators in here. That's quite a few. Mods leave ALL over the internet. That ain't nothing new.

And besides, With what I have coming soon, I only want 'like-minded' moderators. The benefits will be good. We will "screen" heavily any new mods we take on.

Oh, I think I know why:

Sorry if you are friends with Beal. That's not my problem.

Sorry to bring this back fromt he dead...I must of had a different email hooked with theis account, so this is the first time I am reading it. Well, my site eventually came back into msn showing just "www.mothersfamilyrings.com", no title or description tag...again. Then in early September, the site just dropped out again.

Should I talk to the php developer about this? He is not sure why it's doing this in MSN, so any ideas I can give him would sure help out.

From what I am reading, your saying there are not session id's, which I will confirm with him. Do you think the pop-ups are a problem?

Any other ideas?

I really want this back before Christmas...would really help the wallet!
