View Full Version : Indexed? or not?

Yesterday I received notification that my three URL's have been indexed. However, when I do a Pure Search in Positiontech, only two of the URL's shows, and one of them is a version that was cached some time ago! Whats happening?

Its been discussed lately that the 48-72 hour indexing might not be accurate. Give it another few days and see what happens.

Welcome Gordon :hi: PT are having a few probs at the moment and their reporting system (measuring hits from your URL's) is completely out of date. Your URL's should get indexed no problem, but give them a week or two to work out other issues.

Yeah, it's beginning to sort itself out though, as at least some of my sites have updated, been indexed and are showing current click throughs. Now if only AOL would update then I would be happy.

My URL's have been updated after 4 days! Maybe the 48 hour update, which subtley seems to have been renamed the 48-72 hour update should be renamed the 96+ hour update?
Just a suggestion :)

It seems that the refresh rate keeps getting longer and longer....as more pages are submitted thru Paid Inclusion. Inktomi needs to re-evaluate and modify their technology so they can provide us the service we signed up for and expect.
is this an Inktomi thang? or Position Tech?

I signed up through INeedHits, so I don't think it's a Positiontech problem

Several things here!
Spidering of new URLs is very slow. I've got an e-mail system which gives me an instant notification of when a new page is spidered. The latest pages took 5 working days!
From what I've heard - there is a slight problem with the Inktomi take up of submitted sites. There is also a problem (particularly with AOL) of updating from the latest Ink DB.
All of these things are frustrating (I know - I have a lot of clients/money involved). Inktomi have passed the buck to their inclusion partners - and they are taking a lot of flack.
Most are keeping their heads down and fielding the deluge of complaining e-mails. However Jim S. was brave enough to emerge on another forum and got immediately branded (as an Ink partner) as a 'liar, cheat and thief'. As a result, I am loath to invite him to post anywhere (in public).
Ink. DOES have a problem - I am sure they are trying to cure it. I don't think we can blame their submission partners - all of whom are taking the rough edge of everyone's tongue.
For what it is worth, I submitted pages last Thursday - they got spidered for the first time at 3pm today (Wednesday). I don't think it is the inclusion partner's fault!

Ok, eeerrrmm 5 days? make that the 120+ hours update?
I realise that AOL amd others may be late to take up your updates, I don't hold you responsible for that! but I base my observations on the Pure Search provided by Positontech.

Yeah, the buck passing is kinda annoying. But as it's happening to PT, INeedHits, NetSol and the others, I think we can safely assume it is not something they have all decided to mess up on simultaneously.
So, anyone know a representative of Inktomi we can harass instead ?

Yep. This is clearly the fault of Inktomi. Not their partners.
We have to realize that 'search' results are a small part of the Inktomi business plan. They have many other entities that make up the majority of their profits. 'Search' is one part that has not made a profit up until now. At least that was the last thing I had heard anyway.

Not sure what you mean Gordon. Inktomi just became profitable fairly recently and they said that search was one part that is not profitable yet. No big surprise there as all the engines are trying to get in the black with 'search'.
Ink has Many aspects to their business. Not a bad thing at all, IMO.
But again, my post also said 'the last time I had heard'. If 'search' is profitable Right Now, well that is just fine.

Are you offering this as an excuse for bad service?

13-02-2002, 20:56/08:56PM
Oh, not at all. I'm simply saying that their hands are into many things and maybe search is not the top priority. I have no idea and just throwing out some thoughts.
I have Never paid for a url to be in Inktomi. I'm just trying to help figure the 'why' of things.
Here are two Url's about Ink:
http://www.inktomi.com/new/press/2002/gs.html
http://www.inktomi.com/products/index.html
http://www.inktomi.com/about/index.html
oops. Make that 3. :)

Don't forget, we are customers who have paid upfront for service that you seem unable to deliver. Whether you are making a loss or a profit is irrelevant to us, we just expect to receive what we paid for.
if you are unable to provide this service then you should inform us.

hey Gordon, I'm on your side!
Your post seems to say that I work for Ink or something? Obviously, if you read my posts in here, you can see that I bash every SE from time to time and have bashed Ink more than once. :)
Just trying to help a little Gordon. Don't mind me. :)

Er, I think Gordon might have kind of thought ihelpyou (Doug) is somewhat related to INeedHits, I don't think he was mad at Doug, just INeedHits, whom I've always wanted to bash a bit now and then too, whenever I have the chance (like now). :p
Just me humble opinion, hope it helps clear the matter up.
Anyway, I'm also an INeedHits user, and have actually found this forum from a link provided by INeedHits on our login area.
FWIW, no matter how dodgy their Inktomi submission system may be (expired URLs, anyone?), I would still recommend INeedHits over NetSol (VeriSign) because of their straight forward user interface and quick reports.
BTW, AOL Search has finally updated the their Inktomi database.
And oh, what a great forum you have here, Doug, although I must say I'm a bit overwhelmed by the "depth" of discussion here by SEO experts, as I'm just a greedy affiliate of merchant sites trying to make a quick buck. :o:

lol. Me and ineedhits? That would be funny as they are a SEO just like I am. We are competitors. They stuck up the forums link because I had put up a link on the front page of these forums for them. That was mighty nice of them. :)

Doug,
You might want to post something stating that you are not affiliated with “ineedhits”. Gordon sure seemed to think you are affiliated with them (at least that’s the way I read it).
With them putting a link to your forums on their site and your names being somewhat similar I can understand how someone could confuse you with “ineedhits”.
Just my opinion:)

Gordon,
I understand your frustration with all this, but it IS really down to Inktomi this time and not their partners (PositionTech, iNeedHits, etc.) .
I understand Jim Stob's reluctance to be abused in this forum as well as SEF, but if someone from www.ineedhits.com could be brave and give us the inside info on this here, it would be appreciated. I, for one, promise not to flame them.
As for AOL - it has updated but I've noticed something interesting in the last few days that I haven't seen before, but I will start a new thread on this.
As for whoever likes bashing INeedHits - I don't know anything about their SEO/submission services, but I have to admit to having used their free submission thing for clients in the past. I know, shocking, isn't it.... :)
Edit: Only for the more obscure SEs - not the main ones, I hasten to add.

Good idea LotsO
Gordon,
ihelpyou Services ( Doug Heil ) and ineedhits are in NO, way, shape, or form associated with each other at all.
Of course, if they wanted to come to work for me, with me being the sole owner and CEO, well that's just fine with me. :)
