I read Jill's information on becoming a Zealot
http://www.rankwrite.com/zeal.htm
Thanks Jill! :D
So, I took the both test's and am now a Zealot! Wow.
However, I am still very nervous about submitting, and before I do I need to do a little mending on my site.
Once that is done, the way I understand it, my non-commercial site fits into more than one category. BTW, I looked up "site" in the Style Guide and it does not describe what a site is but how to use the word site. My understanding is that a site is all the pages on a website. For Yahoo and Goggle, you just submit the main URL. For DMOZ, you can submit to additional appropriate categories.
I read the past posts and found comments by IHelpYou (Doug) empathizing the use of action verbs and reread the description instructions on Zeal and there it is. However, Doug did a more helpful job in explaining it.
My Question for you Gurus is: Can and should I submit my relevant pages to separate categories? In other words, submit my main site so say:
Home > United States > New > Lifestyle > Food/Wine > Recipes > Beverages > Juice Recipes.
And then find additional appropriate categories?
I also noticed that there is no Zealot for that Category. Additionally, the sites I would be competing with for position were placed in the category by Looksmart. Of course, they have been listed for years. For example, www.vegweb.com
Thanks for your insight; I agree with lots0cash, this forum is the best!
Since, I learn best by example, I was going to look at the sites Marina submitted but I notice that she does not list a URL or homepage.

Jean,
I would definitely worry about your main page first and get it in to the most appropriate category. Once it's in, then you might want to wait a few weeks and try another important page of the site. Make sure it's really different, offering different information. You also might want to try submitting a few informational sites to Zeal that are not your own, because the editors can look at the history of sites you've submitted. If they keep seeing you submitting the same site, they may reject it. If you also try adding some other helpful sites, they'll be more apt to see you as someone who's trying to improve their directory.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Jill!
Now I just need to select the most appropriate category. Since they do not have a category for Lemons, at least I haven't found it yet, I will have to make do.
Do you know if you need to use the round-up or can you submit other sites?

:hi: Lemony...
it's ok that the other sites in that category were submitted through Looksmart or by a Looksmart editor. I think some categories that don't have a Zeal editor are edited by Looksmart editors.

hey jean, here is what MSN.com produces when searching for 'lemons'. It is important you research your phrases before submitting to Zeal/Looksmart.
http://search.msn.com/results.asp?RS=CHECKED&FORM=MSNH&v=1&q=lemons
Obviously, the first results bring up the lemon law. Since MSN is the engine that will bring you the most visitors by being in Looksmart, you need to find an important phrase for your site and then do the search on MSN to see what categories come up first. Then, submit your url to that category in Zeal. Very important.

MsSearch,
That :hi: is my favorite, always sets a good mood. Thanks for the feedback!
BTW, I notice that you do not list your website. Have I missed it in some of your other posts?

A little research for you. Here is a list of phrases with the number of searches done daily across the engines. (on the average)
1 404 388 lemonade stand
2 361 347 lemonade
3 159 153 lemonade stand game
4 149 143 lemonade diet
5 142 136 lemon recipes
6 95 91 lemonade recipe
7 88 85 lemonade game
8 64 61 lemon cheesecake recipes
9 63 61 lemonade lucy
10 60 58 the lemonade diet
11 54 52 the lemonade stand game
12 40 38 lemon pie recipes
13 39 37 lemon cake recipes
14 28 27 homemade lemonade
Now, do searches in MSN to see what categories come up first and submit to that category in Zeal.

Hiya lemony - congratulations on passing the quizzes, I bet you'll make an awesome Zealot! I tracked down Zeal's lemon category for you, since that sounds like the best place for your site:
http://www.zeal.com/category/manage.jhtml?cid=972911
You'd just need log in and click the "Add a Site Profile" link on the right-hand side of the category.
And it's usually not a problem to submit separate pages from your site to various categories, if the content is appropriate - it happens all the time.
About the "Round-Up" - no, you certainly don't need to use that feature to submit sites - it's just an archive area for old sites that members can reinstate in the directory, if they feel like it.
Hope this helps...

from Lemony - BTW, I notice that you do not list your website. Have I missed it in some of your other posts?
You haven't missed my URL in any previous posts...I did not make up a signature file. Maybe some day when I have my own site (which, hopefully, will be soon) I'll make up a sig....

Doug, :hi:
Thanks for the research. O.K. I looked up lemon on MSN and it turns up Lemon Law. Which is incorrect. But then until I came along and decided to design a site around lemons it looks like lemons were getting a bad PR!
It looks to me that some sites make it to the top by age, like # 3 http://www.defect.com/, which could even be out of date.
Per your suggestions I attempted to determine the category, the best I could see is it is listed at the bottom of the first page of selections. Hey, thanks for the Key words!
For Lemon:
Government & Politics > Business Regulation> Consumer Law>
Branches of Law > Personal Injuries and Torts >Automobile Consumer Law
For Lemonade:
Music> Artists S > Music Artists >Su >Sugar Ray
I could go nuts, but it too late, I already am!
Zeal Dude, :hi:
Thanks for the compliment and the guidance; this Zealot stuff is soooooooo intimating, I think it is best left to the PROs.
I just want to get reasonably listed, and am therefore willing to participate. To build a creditable quality rating would it be beneficial that I submit complimentary sites?

I'm surprised at all the lemon searches actually. Go figure!

Jill,
Just goes to show what a big world it is out there. Despite Branding, there is still room for searches.
When I get a chance to put this submitting stuff behind me, I will be so happy to put up some more of the yummy lemonious recipes I have. Plus the fascinating stories of people who contributed to our food supply.

It's certainly not required, but in the long run it's a good policy to balance your submissions with content from different sources.

By different sources to you mean a variety of sites, say for example, ice-skating and not just my site and other citrus sites?

Oh, they can all be about citrus if you want - whatever you find fun & interesting! :)
