Please visit my webmaster's search engine at WebSavvy.cc and add GoGuides to the database. I will make sure it gets indexed. :)

Sorry for the delay in answering. I've been a little busy, but here's what I got back on the site of the month for you.

"In the spirit of fun, we are keeping the complete details of this information confidential, but for obvious reasons, the first few listings will be to promote sites "in the directory" which have really helped to get the directory going. After these commitments have been fulfilled, we will recognize sites based on several factors. What’s especially noteworthy about this program is that sites with a one-person rating have the same chance of being listed as do sites with a three-people rating."

I know that's a little vague, but it's what info I have.

:D

What criteria do you use to determine whether an indexed site gets a one people rating, a two people rating, or a three people rating?

ihelpyou

3 people = high quality

2 people = average quality

1 people = not so average quality

All according to a group of editors.

I see they will not list a sub-domain in its own right. I submitted my Announce It! site, which is a fully developed sub-domain, they instead listed the main domain of eSubmit-It.com which is not fully developed, just one page that links to the sub-domains.

I have it separated into sub-domains because each one houses a specific kind of submission service. So far I have only the search engine submission service completed. Still working to finish all the others.

Hi Savvy:

I had the same problem - the go guides do not seem to realize that in a short time TLDs are going to be a necessity, as we are running out of both IP addresses and URLs. In addition the use of TLDs allows one to segregate the different areas of a site so that it can be themed and indexed accurately.

In my case I submitted an exact copy of my DMOZ listing, but they decided that they could do better and now my SEO site is listed under my hosting site which is totally unrelated. I had no choice by to email the guide for that category and ask that my site be removed from thier directory as it is totally misleading.

IMO this sort of Yahoo-like robot minded mentality is going to insure that the relevancy of their listings is very poor.

It's funny you bring it up for this is one of the topics being tossed around by the guides now. Please keep posting your thoughts for they are helpful.

I was looking for a section on Information Architecture and couldn't find one.

Shouldn't this be the first thing you thought of? :)

I tend to agree Alan.

Perhaps goguides.org should hve been left in the oven a bit longer before presenting it to the public, it seems a bit half baked at this time.

I sent my request for removal to the goguide listed in my category, and got back a reply from a person at the email address listed for that guide, and with the same name as that guide which said:

Thank you for the note - unfortunately I do not run a directory. Where are you trying to submit?

my message clearly said I was asking that my site be removed from Goguides.org???

Hi Mel,

The site your speaking of I believe is listed here, right?
http://www.goguides.org/review/guide.php?viewCat=6193

Is the listing wrong? If so, you may want to post a message on the Public Help forum.

Or if you want, send me an email.

Hi Mel,

They may fix it for you. They just did mine. It's now the correct URL (the sub-domain) and now the Title and description have been fixed so it reads as it is supposed to.

Way to Go GoGuides!

Hi Savvy;

Too late for that - the person that I emailed now remembers that she is a goguide and removed my listing. This does not bother me as I believe it better to have no listing than a bad listing.

Hey GoGuides, now is your big chance to make a move. The big directories are waaay too money hungry and we are waiting for another directory to take their place.

Let's go!

We're working on it Doug. Progress is being made too.

Already this month our daily hit average has almost doubled over last month; and increasing every day. It is good to see more and more searches taking place.

We have some other really nice things getting ready to happen too. Some briefly mentioned here and others that may be surprising.

It took a few emails but I was very pleased
with the response I received to my suggestion for an alteration in the categories . Was changed the following day.

See you have me listed as #1 :D

Keep up the good work. Also the courtesy shown was great.

Absolutely, joeant,.... get it on now!!

Some directory out there needs to take the lead. I don't care who does but someone should. Now is the opp time to do so. The faster something happens, the faster all these money grubbin directories will go under.
