Hi,

I only started my site on November 1st 2005

I was ranked with Alexa at a lofty 2,800,000

Currently my ranking is 281,000 and it improves a little every day

Also, for quite a few days now, I've had over 1000 visitors a day

Cheers

The visitor numbers sound healthy for a new site; are they the visitors you want?

You might consider making a graph, so you can see the trend - and how steady it is.

Don't worry about alexa; it really means little, and I'm afraid your success with it is proof of that! Why do you think a new site - however good - should suddenly do so well?

I don't mean to take anything away fro your success, but unique visitors is a real yardstick, alexa just isn't.

Fair enough, although I've had over 51000 views in less then 40 days

I agree, Alexa means nothing.

Do you have the Alexa tool bar on your browser. Turn it off and watch your ranking. I had it on my browser once and while I was building my first blog, I had an Alexa ranking of just over 300,000 before it launched and I know I was the only one hitting the site. :)

Not sure how I missed this thread. The Internet is not always perfect. :D

I want to welcome ThatAussieBloke and
xanersoft to IHY. :hi:

Now in regard to Alexa ranking. It is worthless. SEs do not pay any attention to it so why would it be important?

If you have a site that is targeted to webmasters it might be of value in regard to trends. I will use this forum as an example. Most of the people who visit IHY probably visit other similar forums. So an Alexa rating might have some importance for comparison.

In regard to ranking It's not important at all.

Alexa rank is very easy to manipulate. If I could get 100 friends to download that crappy TB, and have each of them visit my site a few times per day I would have a good Alexa ranking.
