SEO Consultants update 1,000 of 1,000,000,000.;)
I could sure use some more feedback on the directory. You guys/gals are letting me fly by the seat of my pants here! Come on, let me have it. What do you like, what don't you like? Should I change the entire design (I will be following in Maz's footsteps)?
My main concerns right now are the submission process for consultants and companies. I also want to make sure that the Consultants Profile Page is refined prior to sending out our second e-mail to complete your profiles.
Thanks in advance for your contributions!
P.S. Kal, thanks again for your support! There is still a trickle of submissions coming in and I think the networking at the Bar Conference on 02.23.2002 will bring quite a few more.

I like the overall design a lot, love the blues and greens. I think the main logo? (magnifying glass) is way too big on the front page IMO. The tabs work well throughout the site for navigation, i'm also partial to tabs myself.
Couldn't tell you much about load time, i'm on a T-1.

This is my opinion about something.
By having the first box telling the visitor to 'choose a state', you are giving a wrong impression to the visitor about what to look for in a SEO.
New people to this may think that it is somehow better to find one from the state you live in. This is not true as we all know. Oh yes, it could be that the visitor's market is only in the state or area they are in, but on the net, this is not usually the case. The market is probably either nationwide or world-wide.
The visitor may simply choose Alaska that might bring up one SEO from Alaska and he/she might think that is who they should go with.
I think you should explain this to the visitors about how to use the 'search' form.
Other than that, the site looks great!

Hi P1,
The site looks great to me although I tend to agree with Has about the size of the magnifying glass.
One other observation..... In trying to look at the site from the POV of Joe Surfer, I kind of got the impression that it was a commercial site (even though there is no mention of $). It sort of has the feel that all the consultants listed are employees or affiliates or somehow connected to "a company called SEO Consultants".
It's kind of hard to explain, but I didn't have the feeling that I was looking at a directory of non-related freelance SEO's (even with the mention of the non-endorsement/directory info in the bottom paragraph). Keep in mind that this impression was garnered from the front page only, and other than that, the site looks great and has just the right professional look and feel.
This is just my personal opinion so feel free to ignore it :) .

i am all about your site, if i was hard pressed to get my page optimized and ran across your page-----the lets-get-to-the-pointness of the page would sell me right away.

Ready? :)
The first thing that really hit me was how BIG everything seems. Almost like I had stumbled upon a site for the partially sighted. From the already mentioned magnifying glass to the size of the font - it all seems abnormally large.
Good load time but then I don't really count that within my must have criteria. If the content delivers what I want then load time is secondary.
I like the tabs, nice clean navigation. Is it me or does the site struggle at 800x600? Again, not that it affects me but...
Purely from a visual perspective, I can't help thinking that the six icon squares need some type of border around them, as they have when one hovers over them.
Other than that, can't really fault it. My main problem with it is the font - too large and too "grainy".

I was hoping you'd pop in and make a comment. We are reducing everything by about 20-30% right now. I'm hoping to have the new graphics in place later this evening.Other than that, can't really fault it. My main problem with it is the font - too large and too "grainy".Can you elaborate on that one a little more for me. Which font are you referring to? The base font size of content, or the font used for the name Search Engine Optimization Consultants?
A little too much at 800x600? That will change once the resized graphics go up here shortly. I appreciate quality feedback, thanks to everyone who has provided comments on the site both here in this thread and via e-mail.
P.S. It is a little much at 800x600 and if I come down any more than we have with the new one, I need to rethink the graphic strategy. I'm not real pleased with it at 800x600 and will hopefully come to a happy medium. Thanks again!

I did mean the main body font. I didn't check to see what font it was but it seemed like Tahoma, which has that very grainy appearance when translated to the web. It is also that font which seems too large.
Hope it helps.

Are you seeing that much distortion? I've had no other comments come in on font issues and I'm wondering what you are seeing.
Maybe because I'm using 14px and it creates a different look than appearances at 12 and 13px. I sort of noticed that too. So, what do I do? Would you suggest dropping to 13px for main content? At 1024x768 its just right. At 800x600 it does struggle a little as you mentioned before. Anything above 1024x768 and those will most likely bypass the site if I go less than 14px. I'm trying to satisfy all three resolution ranges without changing to relative sizing.

O.K. Page1.
Agree the magnifying glass is too large - 40% reduction?? maybe.
2. The small icons under the tabs might look better in a pale ****
to match the colour of part of the globe - nice touch that.! Also,
is it possible to line them up under each tab to which they refer??
3. ?Separate out 'seo' from 'consultants' at the top with either a hyphen or full stop.
4. The word consultants on the pale blue line (last one in your graphic) is pushed a bit too close to the word above.
5. How about experimenting with a very lightly textured background - e.g. parchment, leather etc. etc.
6. Agree with Doug about the state - why have it at all,
why not just country ?

Hi Pageone!
From what I've understood, These are two basics of your site.
(i) it is a directory of SEO consultants.
(ii) It has something to do with the search engines.
IMO,
Now a Joe who came here knowing a very little about SEO, and in search for someone who can rank his site on major SE's, will not be entertained by the design.
Why?
The site looks too "scientific". with all that check boxes and blue waves and that dark blue and green color in the header, the site has somewhat moved away from a friendly look.
I advice to soften the colors and make it look a less technical. You can add some icons of Yahoo. Google. and other SE's with which people are familiar with. IN this way, they will feel that they are somewhere which will help them get with these search engines. (which they have heard of).
As far as the copy is concerned, I would advice a
"Why to use this directory" thing for the first time visitors.
Well this is all what i felt to tell you with your great effort! :)

That's really cool!
Nice layout; can't wait to see the final product. But I too am a bit confused about the form on the homepage.
Maybe a directory style format would be better listing specific search engines that companies are expects in or something along those lines.
Hostestly, I don't know much about SEO companies and I feel a bit lost with the form. BUT, good job on the color scheme and layout - really looks like a winner and you'll have SEO companies begging you for top placements in your directory!
