Ask Jeeves Named Premier Search Provider for iLOR; Patented,
Award-Winning Technology Selected to Power Popular Research
Engine
EMERYVILLE, Calif., Feb. 25, 2002 -- Ask Jeeves(R) Web Properties, a division of Ask Jeeves(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:ASKJ), announced today that it has been selected by iLOR, a provider of Internet browsing enhancement and search technology, to power its growing research engine at www.iLOR.com .
Ask Jeeves' syndicated Click Popularity(SM) technology and Related Search tools, employed by sites such as MSN, Lycos, and iWon, will enable iLOR to increase user satisfaction while generating revenue with few internal resources. In addition to providing relevant search results, Ask Jeeves will manage iLOR's ad inventory on its search results pages, selling and serving ads to generate revenue for the Web site.
"Ask Jeeves is a true partner that is dedicated to helping us maximize search revenues while providing an excellent user experience," said Steve Mansfield, president of iLOR. "Their proven success with partners such as Lycos made them a clear choice for iLOR."
"Ask Jeeves continues to deliver a superior combination of relevancy and revenue" said Steve Berkowitz, president of Ask Jeeves Web Properties. "Relevant results are the key to success within the search space. With Ask Jeeves' syndication products, partners such as iLOR can monetize the search experience while increasing user satisfaction."
iLOR will use Ask Jeeves' patented, award-winning Click Popularity
technology to provide its users with highly relevant search results.
Once the results are delivered, iLOR users will be able to hover their cursor over any of the listings to reveal a menu with four options called "LORlinks." This toolset offers customizable methods for users to make the most efficient and effective use of search results.
Ask Jeeves' Click Popularity technology aggregates and organizes online content by tracking the products, services and information people seek, the amount of time they spend at various Web sites, and how frequently they return. Search algorithms then rank results by popularity. Related Search is a tool used in connection with a user's primary search.
Related Search increases user satisfaction by offering suggestions to broaden or narrow a search. Later this year, Ask Jeeves plans to offer Teoma(SM) search technology as part of its suite of search solutions. Teoma, which was acquired by Ask Jeeves in September 2001, uses highly advanced algorithms to process and organize the most relevant and authoritative Web sites in real time.
