Can something be added to forums to say whether directory submissions are free or not as went through process for this one (Joeant) only to be asked for $39.99 at end of process.

You have to pay for a quality directory. Most free ones out there are not worth submitting to anyway. 39 bucks one time fee is cheap when you are talking about a good link "forever".

Good or not, they should tell you if there's a fee before you waste your time.
Check the directory in my profile - directories are categorized by submission conditions.

I agree Q. The same is true for a recipicol link. A directory should tell you that on the first page of the submission process everything involved.

Actually, it does say so at the very top of the submit page: Guaranteed review within the next two business days (One Time Fee - US$39.99) or Register to become an editor. And the information goes on to explain exactly what you are paying for.
My guess is that computerincome signed up to be an editor and failed to read the guidelines and the FAQs. She/he probably tried to submit a site outside of the editors area. There are 2 sides of the directory, the editors side and the public side. If he/she went to the category via the public side instead of through his/her anthill (editor's account), then she would have gotten the Speed Pass submit page instead of the add url page that editors see. This is the only thing that can explain the "process" computerincome said she/he went through.

Actually for your information, I clicked the 'add url' under the forum heading, this took me to a main listing page where there was nothing at the top about paying, on the right there is a 'add url' link, which I clicked and was taken to a page explaining the following:
Joeant has made it easy to add your site, just browse through the topics and choose the one that best suits your site. Click the "Add URL" button at the bottom of the page and Joe will guide you through the simple process.
There was nothing on this page about paying or being an editor, only that an editor would review the submission, not that you had to be a an editor to submit.
Therefore I found the appropriate topic as told to do and clicked the add url and then found I had to pay after going through all this.

Actually, what you found was that you had to pay or become an editor in order to submit your site. You didn't fill out all the submission requirements and then discover you had to pay.
If I understand you correctly, you want the ihelpyou forums to specify which directories charge a fee and which are free. Why do you feel that to be their responsibility?

Just forget it, I came to this forum to find directories and SE's to submit to, maybe get some help and friendly advice....
I just thought it would save people time and be useful if the forum for a particular directory stated whether it was free or not so people could make a decision whether to proceed further.
No need to respond. It is clear most in the this forum are only here to bash other people and not offer genuine help.
I will not be partaking any more.
Thanks to the one or two that have been kind and polite. Pity others have to spoil it.

LOL fine Rachel.
You wanted us to tell you what you wanted us to say. You didn't want our opinion at all. I guess you didn't read my first post to you where I stated that most ALL free directories were not worth it? if you can't spend a couple of bucks for "quality" directory, then maybe you shouldn't have a website at all. "Nothing" in life is free Rachel. I good link for a few bucks that lasts forever is about as close to free as you can get, right?

hmm. I think you need to rethink your whole website strategy Rachel.

You are linking to spam websites in a big way.
You have "many" links leading to spammy companies that have no business offering whatever they offer. I think you know that most quality directories would not list your site anyway. You should think about something else to promote as a business online. Maybe an interest or hobby or have? Do you make or create anything? Do you have special knowledge of something that others might have an interest in knowing about? You really should rethink what you want to do on the internet.

Rachel, you didn't ask for help, you made a complaint. Now you're complaining about the responses you got. Amazing!

My goodness Rachel. You have a hide complaining about JoeAnts one time fee not being in your face. I guess it's because you are NOT an affiliate of JoeAnt and are not getting a cut of the action.
How on do you sleep at night when you affiliate with such unethical businesses.
You have many replies and answers. Unfortunately none were the ones you wanted. That's the thing about IHY, they never tell ANYONE what they want to hear, simply the truth.

She complained about our add URL pages being disabled right now too.
However, if she'd have read our guidelines for submission, she'd have understood that her site does not meet our criteria for inclusion.
Therefore whether or not our add URL pages are currently disabled, is a moot point.

She emailed me that we are bitter and unhelpful. We are VERY helpful to people who want to learn. She obviously does not want to learn and just wants us to tell her what she wants to hear. These type people will "never" do anything online.
I gave her some great advice in my last post, telling her to try to figure out something else to sell online, and I get this nasty email from her for my troubles. Some people do not want any advice whatsoever.
If I did not "seek" advice in forums when I started ten years ago, I would have never learned anything at all.
Not only would websavvy never list her site for free, but no quality directory would ever list it. The facts are the facts.
