Hello Everybody:

Ok, I've heard so much Mumbo Jumbo about keyword density, LOL I'm almost confused. Everybody has different views & I would like to find some pages & Whoevers thoughts about this?

Used too , it was said to use your Keywords as much as possible in yo Page Title, Description, LOL Keyword Meta tag, H1 Header, H2 Header, content, alt images tag & etc....

Now some folks say percentages, some say 6% to 9% some say keep it around 7% to 8%, Ok now you can tell I'm getting confused.

Now to make matters worse there's thrown in there, the Title, the Description & the Key word. Now I know they mean the content or body of the page too.

Now for the big one, How is it measured & what is Included & not included as far as what makes up the percentage results?

Here's Example - lawnservicing.com , I ran the Keyword Density analyzer from another Web Site. I have some rather Good Keyword rankings at some of the Major Search Engines. So I want to be careful if I make changes.

Total Words: 78
Occurrences : 306
Count Word Density
29 lawn 9.48%
24 service 7.84%
19 business 6.21%
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2 Word Phrases: 32
Occurrences : 112
Count Word Density
16 lawn service 14.29%
12 service business 10.71%
9 lawn care 8.04%
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3 Word Phrases: 20
Occurrences : 59
Count Word Density
8 lawn care service 13.56%
7 care service business 11.86%
5 lawn service business 8.47%
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I seem to rank very high in "lawn service" & recently I changed it after reading on this great Forum & others. So now I'm working on lawn care which I understand is searched quite a few more times than "lawn service". Here is the Metas I'm using now? The URL is above if ya need to look at content too!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<head>
<title>Lawn Care Service Business Information Resources</title>

<meta name="description" content="Lawn care service business information resources will answer common questions about the lawn service business and a few short cuts to success">

<meta name="keywords" content="lawn service, lawn care service business company, lawnservice, lawnmowers, yard, landscaping, gardeners, power equipment dealers, mowers, home owner, landscaper, trimmers, lawn, mowers, edging">
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm thinking about dropping off "lawn service" at the beginning of the Keyword tag & leaving out all the commas, but everything else stays the same. What ya think?
Besides an Explanation could someone give me some URL's to read up on this, that would be accurate in content?
What web page do you think has the best Keyword Density Analyzer on it to use & get Good Accurate Information.
Beware, LOL I will be asking questions as the Replys come in!
It looks like your analyzer does the body content only. I like to whole at the whole html.
I do not really believe that this density stuff is all that important. Yes, it is true, that your most important phrases are prominent on your page, but the overriding theme of your site is important as well.
For instance, my keyword density for the term:
search engine optimization
is around 6% total density including all html.
Now, terms like..... web site submission, search engine submission, search engine registration, etc, all have Much less % density but they still warrant some good ranks.
This is called theming.
I use www.keyworddensity.com to check with. It breaks down everything and you can check your phrase a number of different ways with it.
I do believe that if your page is layed out correctly with the correct metas, header tags, a good title and good content, you should do okay. BUT, this assumes that you have a real good feel about how, when, etc to submit to the search engines.
I think having a strong theme is very important, along with the method used to inter-link pages within the same keyword subject. This may also help establish expert or authority ranking for the overall domain theme.
Of course keyword density is also important, and yes I have read various suggestions as well. But I might add, that the density percentage could very well vary given the targeted keywords. For example, real estate which can be very competitive, and may very well have a much shallower target range of acceptance (i.e. 6%-8%), whereas a less competitive keyword phrase (KP) might provide for a wider range (i.e. 4%-12%). Additional and/or tighter spam filters could also contribute to some range variations.
You might pick a percentage which seems reasonable to you, and run with that. Monitor the results after the pages are indexed, and you can adjust accordingly. Since I'm conservative, I might only adjust that percentage by no more than half a percentage point. Monitor these results and repeat, it may take a few months, but I bet you'll find the perfect target percentage for your target keywords!~ :)
Oh, and everything Doug said!~ ;)
It's my feeling that math shouldn't have to enter into search engine optimization.
I've been doing this since 1995 and have never once needed my calculator to get high rankings!
Yet, magically I get 'em anyway. Guess I'm just lucky ;)
Naw Jill.... you are not just lucky.
There is that "feeling" you get with the sites you deal with. Just a certain feeling that allows you to do what is necessary to get good ranks.
Yeah, you can find that theme inspector thing at www.searchengineworld.com - can't remember the exact URL, but there's a link to 'tools' or something and you can find it there. It's pretty good, I like it.
